Seems to me the market isn't exactly overflowing with cool Big Block Chevrolet valvecovers. I have seen no-named finned covers in the past, but I'm not even sure if they're still available. I was re-reading Django's SBC steel valvecovers post and got to the part where several people mentioned cutting apart Chevy script valvecovers from pre-'65 283s and using the script as a wire loom on a plain steel cover, ala the Olds Rocket but without the fakery. Has anybody done this or something similar (like just TIG welding the script right into the BBC valvecover)? Seems like this would be a cool option, although I think you'd have to relocate at least one breather.
I think the early stock chrome covers look nice, as long as they have the original dull chrome finish (they were not buffed before being plated, unlike the repops) I have a pair of M/T covers for the 427 I'm building for my 61
I haven't seen that before, but it might look pretty cool. I am running some Weiand's that I blasted to a dull flat finish, and then cleared over them.
In the 1960s, finned aluminum valve covers for big block Chevy engines were made by companies that included Ansen, Cal Custom, Edelbrock (in three versions), Eelco, Mickey Thompson, Moon, Offenhauser, and Weiand. You can find pictures of some of them on http://www.roadsters.com/bbc/
Check out this web site www.yourcovers.com this is the place that I bought mine for my BBC Louver Dude
BigCheese, Edelbrock unveiled a new style of finned somewhat tall style valve covers at SEMA this past november. They are slated to be available to the public in 2006 but I'm not sure exactly when. I agree, finding the correct style of vintage looking BBC valve covers is quite difficult. Especially if you arent running the motor in a chevy and dont want the corvette or chevrolet script on them. Look on eBay. You can find some awesome Marine finned ones that look really neat. Mike
a buddy has a *****in pair of big block fins that he wants to sell ....i think they are cal customs......pm me if your interested and i can get a picture and figure....thanks brandon
Like this ? You can buy them........new cast I like these......also....... Source http://www.yourcovers.com/newvalve.htm
Some of the finned marine ones look amazing! I've been searching for them for my car. Looking for old marine headers too. I've come across some on eb** but they all have been too salty for my wallet right now. Need something different for the Stude!
Agreed, my dad has a pair for his 396. At least, they're cast aluminum and look marine as the oil-fill has a spring on it to keep it from vibrating loose. I was just curious what people had done for their own rides. Those cast Chevy script numbers are pretty cool, but the Caddy ones fall a bit short IMO. They're more "newstalgia" than actual vintage in appearance. I thought I had heard that somebody on here had welded in some 1950s Cadillac scripts on their stamped steel Caddy 500 valve covers, but I never did see a picture.
Here is a set of M/T's that I Picked up for my 396. Someone Milled out the "M/T" logo and drilled a bunch of small holes for the Breathers. Powdercoated in "Wrinkle Black"

Good chance these are made by a company called PML. They also make a line of pretty cool retro style covers for a variety of engines, PLUS they do custom orders. If I remember correctly, their products are cast.
My bad man. Haha. I have a tendency to not look at when stuff was posted. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
