im new to the resto-mod world. I have a 53 Chevy Belair 4 door. I have had it since 2006 but I'm in the military so it has taken a long time to do anything. Waldo fabrication referred me to the site to get insite from all of you. I really need help I would like to get it running now that I'm stationed in ft bliss tx. I will post pics soon on my progress...thanks in advance for all the help.
Some pics would be great Welcome to the board. What are your plans for the ride? All stock? plans to change all that?
Thanks.... I got the message of this blog from Walton Fabrications because I told them this is my first restoration and I wanted some help. My wife and I have done euros before but this is way different because is all steel. Right now I have the body off the chasis and I'm almost done with the chasis. What I want to do to the car is resto-mod I want to enjoy the car and drive it everyday. I want to go 350 but I do not know welding yet. I do not know how that changes with transmission brackets, drive shaft and gear ratio with the rear dif. So I'm thinking that I'm going to go straight 6 until I learn more. I would like to get the car running this year. It sounds like a rush but I'm in the military so is taken a long time for me to even see my car and right now I'm in a school for a year in El Paso for the military and this is going to be the most time I will have with my family and the car. When we bought the car its for me to catch up with my kids working on it together since I have been out of the country alot. My kids are two of them are 8 and one is 5. So my timeline to have the care done is there high school prom. I hope that is realistic? If any one has any thoughts or recommendation would be appreciated. T

no fun to have to redo stuff - run with the V8 - many threads here, and many to help you along with project - search the Vendors here too - have fun
Heads up...this is not a 'resto-mod' site. Spend some time here and that will become apparent. But for fixing up an old car this is a very good place. Enjoy your project.
You can certainly have it on the road in 9-10 years IF you don't overdo it. A lot of projects get abandoned because the owner tears them down to nothing and then lose interest or can't figure out how to get it back together. You don't need to take a car down to a box of bolts to rebuild it. My 1953 Chevy has a 350, mustang II front suspension, and S-10 4x4 rear with no welding (all bolt-in) and the body was never off the frame. Feel free to email me with any specific questions you might have (atomickustom@hotmail.com) but if you just spend several hours searching this site you will learn everything you could ever want to know. Just remember, the guys who completely reconstruct their cars from the ground up in a year tend to be young & child free and/or pros. Do as little as you need to do and you can actually get it on the road before you retire. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
