I have a 1940 chevy sedan delivery and I would like to update the rearend . I was told that I can use a jeep 6 lug rear end because its the correct size , can some body guide me to the correct year or what rear end I can use for this project . I want to keep the 6 lug rim and im on a budget so I cant go and buy a new rearend . so if theres a a fellow car guy out there that up dated a rear end please help me out......thank you very much
Have a friend with a 35 Chevy roadster who installed later GM rear end. He ran 6 lug Pontiac wires and upgraded drive line from closed to open. It had a rear cover and I believe he used adapters as it was a 5 lug rear end.
Would love to see a picture of that sedan delivery, if you get a chance. I don't believe I've ever seen as such. Wish I could provide some better advice then that. It's not a bad start though....may lead up into my face emitting a drool string or three......
The '74-'91 Jeep Wagoneer narrow-track Dana 44 is 60" wide. It has the 6-on-5-1/2" pattern. They are very strong, and have a wide variety of ratios in the aftermarket. Measure your existing axle, drum-face to drum-face, and compare.
gimpy hit it with the wagoneer narrow track 60 inches i dont know if that will fit your sedan delivery or not i believe regular chevy was 58 wms.im sure someone will correct me if im wrong.
60-58" Will work - check out - www.chevytrucks.org. - click on Technical - check in Mechanical - 4th selection - loads of info on IFS and rear end swaps - look towards bottom of page - I think you'll find what you're looking for. Good luck
Get a rear axle from a 1986 K5 chevy blazer. It will be 6 lug and should be pretty close to the same width also...Your rims should go right on...
while your measuring your currant axle also measure backing plate to backing plate, drum thickness can very, the inside measurement must clear the frame rails, even in an off camber position and the hub/drum face must clear the fenders. same apply's for rears with disc brakes. Godspeed MrC.
