    A straight axle ,independent suspension.
    Doesn't seem like those two should be in the same sentence , but here the are on the same car.

    I wonder how effective that set-up was? I ***ume it works similar to an old "plunger" style chopper frame.

    That is the most unusual suspension I have ever seen.

    There is a later development in some British cars, called a 'sliding pillar', if I recall correctly,
    that works on sort of a similar concept, but without the transverse spring.
