Has anyone used the Comp cams Classic Thumpr #37-600-5 cam
on their 292 engine? Also does anyone know of a company that makes
an aftermarket floor shift for a Ford-o-matic trans? KJ

  3. I'm running a 292 and ford-o-matic in my tudor and made a floor shifter, don't think you can buy one. On the other hand, would the cruise-o-matic floor shifter work? the cruise has 6 positions and the three speed ford-o-matic has only 5 but could you block one out? The T-birds came with ford-o-matics, they had floor shifters but I bet they would not be cheap.
Don't know about the thumper cam, a lot of people don't like them for power, also with that transmission you will have to watch out for idle speed, can you get a high speed converter? I running a stock converter and a mild comp cam, it works ok but idle speed is a little high.
remember, you don't need a BIG cam to get good sound with a Y block.

    Morning!
I read about this shifter Spectre Performance automatic Transmission shifter SPE-6423 but I don't know if it will work with a Ford-o-matic? B&M and Lokar both make one for the FMX but I don't know if I want to go through all the crap to change trannies when I have a perfectly good FOM!

What was the mild Comp cam you used? Howard also makes a cam for a 292.

The converters are pretty tight on the FOM trannies which makes them sensitive to being overcammed. The Isky E4 camshaft ground on 112° lobe centers works reasonably well with that tranny.

  6. The cam I'm using is .3140 lift. duration @ .050, intake 224, exhaust 230 lobe separation is 108*

Did you do any mods to the engine?

  8. running open headers and have the "A" intake manifold and a rochester 4-jet carb on the car now but I just picked up a "B" intake and a Holley list # 1273 carb that I will be installing soon.
