I'm looking into outfitting my 38 Ford deluxe with wheels and tires. I dropped the front-end 4 inches and put in front disc and rear drum brakes. 3.54 rear gears. T5 transmission.59A Flathead. Can I get some advice on wheel backspace, tire size, and anything else thats makes it all fit together and drive right? 5 on 5 1/2 all way round.

78 & up Ford E 150 Van or F 150 pick up should work and are easy to find. Get one and try it first.

Do you have some pics of the car? Are you a whitewall or black wall guy? Is the car more race, kustom or regular old hot rod?

Wheels/tires are part of the whole deal, they have to be cohesive with the vibe of the car so don't **** it up.

That is about as well put as anyone could do right there. And the first question that has to be answered before you can proceed further.

True wheel size and backspacing are at the top of the list for fit but wheels and tires have to fit the total build plan or they stick out like a sore thumb.
    1. Don't buy into the tire store guy's "these are the latest hot lick rims out there" spiel and at the same time don't settle for rims that look like they belong on your grandpa's travel trailer because they are the only thing the tire store says they have that fit that day. Old steelies from the wrecking yard spiffed up and painted with a spray bomb usually look a lot more appropriate on most older rigs than those.

A few that looked a couple of months ago

Yes I like steelies and hubcaps these are all Fords with similar fender shapes as your car

Not a Ford but you can't go wrong with simple polished 5 spokes

Nice looking but I don't know how Hamb Friendly they are

Cast gray spokes aren't bad either

To add a few more what about wide whites on steelies with 50 something hubcaps?

A bit newer but still traditional on Patricks Mopar

It will be a hot rod/driver. This isn't my car but is what I'm shooting for. 1938 Blue.jpg
