Hello, do I need to hook up a relay to install an ahooga horn on my 1954 chevy belair? Thanks Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Is it original, or aftermarket? I got one of those cheap Chinese ones, and had to go to the website for instructions. No relay needed, but it didn't work anyway, and now the ****py chrome plastic has gone to hell.
Always use a relay for a high amperage draw, such as headlamps, but any 'motor' must have direct voltage, which is controlled by a relay. Wrecking yards have later model cars with Bosch system, so you can pull 4 prong relays and use them. The wiring schematic is simple, and available on line: Beauty of the relay is it takes .3 amps to energize it...your choice whether the horn ****on grounds it or powers it: the relay will do what you tell it to. It's like...having an honest attorney between yourself and your wife. Just imagine...
I always use a relay . That way you only have a low-voltage ground runninng into the car to the switch .
