They probably did 100 Million cars like that and they all rusted away from the inside out since the primer couldn't get into the inner spaces. I like the new electrostatic method of dipping the whole body several times in a big vat then doing the bc/cc finish. Our Grandchildren will be thrilled to find a barn find 2015 Camaro in 2060 and not worry about the rusted floors and quarters.
What may not be readily apparent from the photo is where all of the overspray is going. In Jr. High shop cl*** (early-sixties) we went on a field trip to the GM ***embly plant in Baltimore on Broening Hwy. At the time all of the GM intermediates were being built there (Chevelles, Tempests, LeMans, Cutl***, Buick Specials, etc.) There was a steady current of water being constantly pumped under those platforms the painters were standing on. I'm sure in those pre-EPA days the overspray that was ****ed out by the stream underneath went directly into the Inner Harbor, the Patapsco River and subsequently into the Chesapeake Bay.
GM ***embly plant. Van Nuys, Cal. This guy's respirator looks scary. Looks like the guys that shot the interiors got a better respirator.
That first shot is of English Ford Zephyr station wagons, late fifties. The wagon body shown is the model made by Ford of Australia. So, I presume this is a shot of the Australian ***embly line. Notice the instrument panel on the right hand side for right hand drive.
