I think I got these right. the wifey is on the phone right now so I can't call and confirm them...

if you look in the foreground, notice the coupe behind the telephone pole (looks like it's splitting the car in half...not literally) he thought that was him.....either this pic or the next one...
this is the old portsmouth raceway.....not the one now.....

    not sure about this one...

he's in these two shots, don't know which car though..

this photo really catches my attention.....there's something mysterious about this young girl staring at the carmera.....a moment in time...frozen.....i don't know how to explain it..

he said this is the atomic speedway in dayton ohio.....he said there were two tracks, one inside of the other..

just a shot with some buddies at the track

he always wanted to see daytona speedway.......he always wanted to go to the salt flats too......he made it to daytona....

he said this would really fly....some gmc 6cyl or something.....said the old guy was way more advanced than they were....

just a shot of his old home place from a distance

Sorry; I don't follow that first paragraph. The guy is cutting his car in two?
That girl is about my age (I'm 52).

I could look at your collection non-stop for days. Thanks for ALL the history you have brought to the HAMB.
BTW....I saved the pic of the young lady staring into the camera....priceless.

You really ought to think about publishing these photos. I know people here really like them. Also you should sit down with your grandfather and video tape him reminiscing about the photos. I absolutely guarantee you wont be sorry. My grandfather played big league baseball for a couple seasons when he was young. When he p***ed my aunt found a box of pictures of him and other ballplayers. Who they were, where they where, is lost to time.

well, grandpa's garage it choked full of nothing but 50+ years of flatty stuff......he doesn't have a bunch of speed eq. but just about anything else you can think of.......even outside of the flatty world.... it's deep!!!

i'll resurect the old thread "where's the stuff on the wall thread" and bring it bttt....

yes, on the little fenderless 34 coupe......it is still sitting in a barn as the guy parked it a few weeks after he traded grandpa for a 35 coupe.....you don't know HOW bad I want that car!!!! man!!! what a find it would be.....the old fella -which was actually relation to us has p***ed away.....this was before I was interested in hot rods.... grandpa said when it was parked, it was one of the best bodies and interiors he ever owned in an old ford.........yeah, I know, he gets me fired up about it every so often...

he likes to mess with me.....he called tonight and said, "Jeff, there's an ad in the paper for a 34 coupe. Says it's an unfinished project for 7k. Here's the #" just about the time I told him I'd call him right back, he started laughing and said, "Oh, it says 48 Ford, my gl***es are dirty.....sorry." Of course I don't see the humor!

You should get the book "Cool Cars- Square Roll Bars" if you haven't already. It is a kick*** look at early hotrodding New England Style. You could do a book with similar layout and I think it would be a hit. I know I'd buy it.

And- I don't think we could all thank you enough for posting the pics that you take the time and effort to do. Thank you.

Also- please please please bring you and your Grandad to the HAMB Drags.

he'll go about anywhere with me as long as it isn't more than about 2 hours.......i wish i could get him to go other places before he isn't able to.......he's in his 80's and he'll work circles around guys that are 60 years younger....yes, 60 years.......

a year or so ago, my wife made reservations for us at the henry ford museum and that village place.......he wouldn't budge and he has always wanted to go there...

i've thought about the book thing and have had many refer to it......it's just a bit more of a project than i could tackle, i think.....i have a BA in English Humanities but you couldn't tell it from my grammar and content....i just don't get all wrapped up in all things literary anymore....

really, though, i just enjoy sharing them here on the hamb, msn site and ford barn.....but to have it in one location would be great..

and, i'll tell ya....there's NO book that could retell his life they way he tells it....he can sure spin a tale!!! but when it comes time for facts, he's very particular....

speaking of facts, blown49 caught me in a big one.....the Atomic speedway that i referred to is in chilocothe ohio, not dayton.....the pics above are at a speedway in dayton.....sorry.....i don't like misinformation either, so i wanted to correct that.....

the name "atomic" just sticks in my head and I always forget about chilocothe having a raceway.....

  15. Very kool...........thanks!!!

C'mon Jeff I wasn't trying to catch you in anything that's why I e-mailed to you what I did instead of posting it here.;)

BTW Sarah Fischer started her racing career at the K-C Speedway. Your gramps was in some good company.....just a few years earlier.

    great pictures and history!!!

One of the biggest regrets of my life was not sitting down with my mom and a tape recorder or something to record the stories she could tell about the family history, especially those during the gold rush era.

Do yourself and especially your kids a favor by somehow preserving those wonderful memories !!

  18. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! It was really neat to look at those pictures!:D Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy:D

Man, very cool stuff there. For any of you guys interested in old NASCAR stuff, I just read a book called "Driving With The Devil". It's a great read with lots of cool info and photos from the 30's, 40's and 50's.

Thanks again for posting these. They were cool a few months back but seem to have more meaning since I met your grandpa over the weekend. I'm glad you talked him into coming. He looked like he was having fun. I know Petejoe enjoyed talking with him.

What a beautiful collection of memories. Great to see that some of this stuff gets recorded for history and not lost forever.

Well naturally they get knocked off fast. We gotta keep the "let me see(fill in the blank)...because I dont want to bother searching", "What is it worth" and "Somebody/my pet you never knew died" posts at the top!
REALLY great photos. Thanks for taking the time to post them and great to meet you at the Cinematic.
