Thanks for sharing the pics... you know, it won't be long before there are no places like that left... Brian
Nice, i thought i was the only one who brought my camera to the junk yard. i have alot of cool pictures from Kar Bashers here in edmonton, theres an early 50's dodge ambulance, lots of 50's and 60's 1 tons with logos still on the doors. very cool stuff, i would post them but i dont know how to
Where in PA is this yard? Care to share your "secret spot"? Please? EDIT: That isn't the yard in Pine Grove, is it?
Mazdaslam, next time you wanna go there LMK. My buddy went there one time looking for parts for his 49 merc. He always told me we got to go sometime. Maybe we can get some of the local Hambers together and do a junkyard crawl. What's his hours during the weekend and how are his prices? I'm looking for parts for my 40 Dodge tudor sedan. Thanks later shawn
I miss the days when yards like this were a dime a dozen. About ten years ago, the price of scrap iron went up and all the yards in this area crushed everything. A few crushed it all and went out of business. Damn the EPA.
There are still a few that don't crush their oldies in Northern Ohio. Schulte Auto Wrecking has kept what he has and the prices are reasonable.. Bob's, out near Sandusky has row upon row of late '40s-'60s cars. Feezle's over in Enon Valley PA has quite a few late '50s-early '60s cars, but their prices are up there. The problem with yards in this area is that the combo of salt in the air and acid rain from the long gone steel mills in the ground pretty much destroys sheet metal. I know a secret yard, cars from the late '20s to mid '60-s primarily, but I'm niot telling anybody until I decide whether I want a '35 Ford Tudor shell he's got....
I also went to my favorite local junkyard saturday, looking for some door hardware for my 71 chevy truck.I know he had a couple of those in the yard,so I figured no problem. well the trucks are gone, crushed along with almost everything more than 10 years old!! the yard owner said that the price of scrap was pushing $100.per ton it wasnt worth his trouble selling parts off those old junkers. it looks like our northwest pa.yards are going to be full of crappy front wheel drive cars before long.
