Made my own power hammer!

    I got the idea from a fellow hamber post. This thing is awesome. 7 inch deep jaw, and powerful ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1416707216.093938.jpg enough to shape 16
    Gauge metal. Now to make the dies to do the area obove the doors on my 32 three window.

    Hey Jim.....very nice, can you give us a play by play on how and what parts you used in building the hammer, the reason I asked is because I need to make one myself for some sheet metal parts.

    from the looks of it, it appears to be a reciprocating hammer. as there is no spring for stored energy. either way it looks like a useful tool.

    Correct, the energy is stored in the flywheel.

    Without a spring mech on the upper die, control of the hits on the material will be difficult, as with a normal hammer the ram pushes the spring, the spring is doing the work of the hammering. shiming the lower die either increases or decreases the hit pressure by the spring. With yours, once you pound the material to the gap (upper and lower die clearence) thats it and it wont take another hit. A lot of little small soft hits moves material better that one big one unless you a die-stamping body parts

    Used it to make body lines in a project. Works real
    Good.
