Looking at this trans the d2 71 makes me think April 71? Not as familiar with them. Any input appreciated. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Trying to determine if it's early or later 60's early 70's Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
says 1961 right there...plain as day....but that's just the side cover. How about pics of the whole transmission?
I thought months years listed but day too? I was told the cast irons were likely non Chevy but other gm products? Anyone know? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
pictures.....if we can see the front of the transmission, it would be a big help. Then we can see what it bolts to, they all have different cases to match that car makers bellhousing. What is the input shaft diameter and spline count..... Also the letters/numbers on the case will help narrow it down.
I haven't bought it but looking at it. Thought of putting it behind a 292-6 Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
co**** spline output shaft, iron case, sure looks like an early Chevy T10. Are there any numbers on the main case? I did find a thread on a corvette forum from about 10 years ago that lists several of the numbers.
Found this on Hemings Borg Warner also released that same T-85 manual three-speed in '57. Late '50s and early '60s Corvettes used an aluminum case, while the full-size GM units from '57-'60 used a cast-iron case. GM used all aluminum-cased units after 1960, and all manufacturers used aluminum cases up until 1974. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I would say that it probably is a 61 throughout. I believe that the standard t-10 started getting aluminum tail housings in about 64 or 5. Single groove input is a standard issue gear ratio. I would guess an Impala.
How much is he asking for it? I have a '67 Muncie M-20 wide ratio and a 1963 Borg Warner T-10 close ratio.
open the side case and look at the gears.....nice gears - it's worth $300.....see what the builders are getting for them at the swap meets lately ?
Based on the info provided, my T-10 info identifies this as a very early Borg Warner aftermarket trans. (Aftermarket like sold at a speed shop.) Looks like a Super T-10 with a 904 nodular iron main case and it should have nickel gears. Either way it looks like a decent trans as long as the guts are in good shape.
Early T10s were built from 1957 to 1965 with later Super T10s (Second design) built from 1974 to 1983. Richmond ended up taking over from B/W. Early T10 are cast iron case (Like Saginaw 4sd), later are alloy case. http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cat...erhaul_kits/borg_warner_t10_overhaul_kit.html http://www.pontiacpower.org/BW.htm
