Im putting a '35 Ford dash in my '29 Tudor. Any suggestions or pix of instrument clusters other than stock? Was thinking of just filling in the holes and starting fresh or maybe making a panel and mounting it in place with gauges.
I am going to do the same dash in my 30. I plan on leaving the dash stock. I think they look right at home in the A's just as they are. Still interested to see what you do though... Saw this one on an auction site and thought it came out awesome Never finished
Thanx. Yeah this does look clean n starting to re-think the panel idea. Would just look like an add on.
S I've filled the original 3 holes in my dash and fitted 2 Smiths gauges out of an early 60's Austin, simply because the originals are 6 volt and have capillary tubes and were going to cost a lot to make functional. I also like the look of the new gauges as they are kinda oddball and the only set I've ever seen.. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
For the record, I have seen a couple that have switched out for a cluster that really looked good. I just love the stock dash. Nailhead, yours looks great too, took me a sec to adjust for the RHD though. Never finished
My vote would be filling the existing holes then mounting in the center area. Kind of a morphing of the newer dash smooth sexy shape and the older more mechanical purpose looks. I think some would have a hard time ditching the original center portion but do you want something a little different? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Thats what were going with. Going with the Classic Instruments All American Tradition 5 gauge set. After we get the column in then were going to lay out the gauges, 3 3/8" speedo in the center with the other 4 2 1/8" gauges two on each side.
There are a number of early instrument panels that are compact and would likely fit nicely on the fairly narrow, left side flat area of the dash and give the car a very nice, unique, look. This one is an early thirties Dodge, but Essex made similar, but unique and compact, panels in the late 20's and early thirties. Other manufacturers also have unique designs worth looking at. In the last year, I have picked up several such Deco styled panels, but I just realized, I failed to take any photos, or I would post more examples. I see a Dodge panel, like I posted above, is currently on eBay, and a nice early engine turned Willys panel is there as well. Today, I just purchased a 1931 Essex panel, you could find photos of it on completed sales with an eBay search.
