I got an Edelbrock 257 manifold from a HAMBer awhile back, and I'm just now putting the engine together. When I go to put the holding clamps on, two of them will only go in one direction. I don't think this is correct. Are there other hold downs or is this manifold not correct for this engine? The engine is a 272, code is ECG 6015A. What am I missing? Thanks!!

As far as I know, the Y Blocks had 2 different lengths of manifold hold downs.
Looks like you need a pair of shorter ones.
I could be corrected if I'm wrong ;):)

  4. The clamps are covering the ears. torque to specs and run it.
Mine did the same, same intake, no problems, just looks weird.

I have two styles of hold downs taken from several Y blocks I've dis***embled. The ones you are using are the beefier of the two, with 6 straight "sides". The other style is slightly smaller, rounded and may fit your intake better.

The 239-312 F/M Y block heads are interchangeable, not handed. The Lincoln Y may be a different story.

The only reason there are rights and lefts is which end the soft plug that blocks off the water p***age is in.

Lincoln Y is also interchangeable side to side.
