Bought a chevy flex plate bolted it up to the motor and the trans, put it in the car and @#$%^! Always take your measuring tools with you! Some junk out there.
Someone knew it was scrap but still took it to the swap meet to sell !! The good one is the bottom one.Top one obviously a reject.
I saw a vendor once at a meet selling a Texaco Fire Chief gas sign as vintage. Reproductions have the date painted on the opposite side of the vintage ones so they can be identified as repop. But the vendor had chipped the date off and "rusted" the spot so the sign looked aged and vintage. He claimed it was the real deal. Just walked away. Buyer beware.
The mounting surface to the crank has a 4mm difference meaning it was too tight against the converter.
Auto parts store, transmission shops....etc O'reilly has them in 3 different price ranges.....$19.95, 39.95 and 94.95. Not sure what the differences are.
I wonder what caused it to be like that, for a diffrent application? bent? Maybe the seller didnt know either, I wouldnt have noticed and definitely wouldnt have thought to check the tolerance or even known what it was suppose to be on something like that
Those are very hard to install backwards. The little ridge at the center hole prevents it, except for a major idiot.
Just curious here but you say you had the motor and trans bolted together before you put it in the car, did you not try to get the torque converter bolts before putting it in the car? Did you have the torque converter turned and clicked into the pump three clicks? Seems like I remember 4mm or more worth of space (on a normal one) between the torque and flex if the torque is all the way back where its suppose to be.so the torque should have still turned even with this one if thats the case, I could be wrong, I have been before
I wish I had attempted to do up the converter bolts before it went in the car. At least I didn't put oil and trans fluid in it !! As for the plate,I bet it was a GM reject that ended up in the dumpster out back, maybe the guy working the press screwed up and pressed out a lot more.
