Hey guys, Im starting a new build and Im pretty excited about it. I just picked up this 49 White MoCo cab and hood. It came with a clean ***le so that sealed the deal for me. To accompany the cab I found this old KNOX bed. I dont know much about Knox, only that they made beds for Internationals in the 40s, which is what I think this is. I dont know if they have any affiliation with the Knox truck Co from the early 1900s. Anyway I know its kinda lame but I have a short S10 frame I might use. Its in great shape, has new brakes and shocks all around, no rust, so I hate to get rid of it. Also I have an old 307 SBC I might use.
I have a friend with a 40's international pickup and it came from the factory with a knox bed. You could order the trucks with the knox bed or the regular bed from international. The know was considered heavy duty.
By the looks of that hood, you could bolt a couple V-8's together and have a V-16. A friend of mine runs a Bonnie car with 2 500" Caddies mated together and I think it would fit in your truck.
Interesting. I have a 49 Mack cab and grille I'm using, to build a lowered p/u with. Whats strange is I have a 37 Ford p/u hood that the side reveals match and width almost matchs. Im going a different route but keep posting about yours.
I saw this one at Knoxville about 10 years ago, thought it was super neat. It had a 5.9 ***mins in it and had a 5th wheel so he could pull his travel trailer with it. Obviously your plans are different, but they do make a nice looking ride. BTW, the Knox bed is a nice touch, they were an optional upgrade on Internationals, but were also available for other makes.
As long as the hood is it was likely a big truck. The cab looks decent and the bed should work fine. I think you'll be ok, go for it and yes the ***le makes it a lot less painful. Tim
Cool truck! I would shy away from an s10 frame, there are better frames to use or make your own the way you want it and don't let the s10 frame dictate how your truck turns out. You will be much happier. Jim Ford
Welcome to the WMC family. We have one languishing (half done) at the back of the shop. White used the same cab from 35 to 63, changing to all steel reinforcements in the early 50s. The worst part of our 49 build was getting rid of all the "termite food" reinforcements. Happy building!
So I got the floor all cut out and am in the middle of the channeling. I think I need to go down a little more. Im not planning on a chop so I think I can go 6" on the channel. I got an order of 1in tubing coming in next week so I can get to work on the new floor. I still need to cut the old body mounts off the frame, The cab needs to go back another 9". I really hate those camaro wheels.
I've been trying to trade for an old white truck that I found a couple of years back. Haven't had any success.
You state the S-10 ch***is is lame, yet still use it? Sine you didn't say you had fenders it must be open wheeled? Make your own frame.
I hear ya but it will be a full fendered truck. If I were going fenderless there is no way I be running a late model IFS, but I think I will run the S10 frame, it already has everything I need and with a tight budget its hard to throw that away.
What engine do you plan on running? The s10 frame sits too high and is hard to fit a v8 engine. On the one I helped with I had to do a lot of carving in the cross member to clear the fuel pump and the steering box was in the grill area. The guy finally just gave up on the car and sold it. 2 pieces of box tube can't cost that much and that s10 suspension has bad geometry from the factory. Just because you have it don't build something that you wont be happy with. Jim Ford
