i was in a restaurant the other night & noticed they had paneled the walls with some big bamboo, split in half & mounted side by side. it looked pretty cool on the wall & obviously every thought i usually have involves cars somehow so i started wondering if anyone has ever built a tiki/hawaiian/islander style rod before. i was thinking of a T based deal with a wooden bucket style body, with the bamboo covering the outside. maybe a wooden tiki style grill, tiki torch style headlights. it would have to have a weird motor (flatty inliner, slant 6 or buick overhead straight 8 with a crazy octopus intake exhaust setup) maybe a removeable top made like a roof on a hut with thatching (obviously some sort of windproofing would have to go on there) the frame, rear & any other major structual components would be a crazy candy green while everything else was wood or bamboo. i may do up some sketches later just for fun. does anyone know if anything like this has been built in the past? im sure something like is has been done but ive never seen anything like it & the idea hit me like a ton of bricks the other night.
there is a flaked green one done just how you describe it. Im not sure where its from though, someone will show pics i bet.
haha, wow thats pretty killer. i figured something like that had to be done before. i love that interior. i was thinking the body should look a little more like a hut from gilligans island.
I love that car. There was a write up on it barracuda magazine awhile back. The interior was done by tikidiablo.
not that car again. The tiki stuff may look cool, but theres been a lot of questioning regarding the fabrication job of the car itself.
Goodman here on the HAMB owns that green A. He is also the man that bought my truck and lives in Miami-Doesn't post much but I believe is on here quite a bit-He also knows it takes a lot of **** on here so let him have it! Mootz
Yes, The LB tiki is up again. To clarify , I designed the interior but did not make the door panels. The bamboo work on there is rather crude compared to what I do. The builder used my resin tikis for the door handles and a tiki shifter knob I do. I made the seat and carved up the wood on the center console. I really would've liked to have spent more time on the car, but I did what I could with with the time allowed. Danny
hey! ive seen that thing before. Ive p***ed it a couple times taking the back roads to the shore. crazy!
Wasn't there an old model a truck, that had a hut style roof over the bed. I think the beach boys used it on a record cover or on tv or something. Can't remember.
