Project is 53' Chevy truck w 235 straight six. As you can see many mods to engine Clifford Intake edelbrock 1405. Etc. question is this... I have relocated the oil filter as seen in the pics. Which hole out of block goes to which ****** on the inline filter or does it mater? One hole is just behind rear header and other hole is under front header in the pic. The ones with br*** fittings in them
The fitting with the Tee on it is the pressure side, which connects to the inlet of the filter. The other fitting is the return line. Figure out how the filter works, as far as which side is supposed to be the inlet or outlet.
Better yet, remove and toss the filter adapter. This subject has been discussed many times here and there are basically two schools of thought. A 'partial flow' filter, which is what you have here, only filters a small percentage of oil (estimated at 10% or less) at any given time. Some feel this is 'better than nothing'. Others, myself included, think that since all the oil is NOT filtered before going to the engine bearings, it doesn't do much good. One should just change the oil on regular intervals, the length of which can be adjusted to suit your driving conditions. If you decide to keep this accessory item, be sure you do your homework on whether or not it has to have a restriction in the flow line....otherwise it may be just the equivalent of an oil leak and lower oil pressure in the main oil gallery below desired levels. I have seen the other threads ....20% of oil filtered is the number I saw. I had no filter before the build but since it's out anyway y not plumb in one. I will run the filter since the work is already done. Which side is pressure and which is return on the oil filter? It's a screw on type with one fitting going into the center of the screw on filter and the other hole is off to the side. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!

Well, while I was typing that "I don't know, but here are some suggestions how to find out" (now deleted), Mr48Chev provided what was needed. It appears the center port of the filter/adapter is the return line, the perimeter port is inflow to the filter. Ray
IF you're going to bother with a filter, you may as well go to the other side of the block, where the real action is. I'm guessing from the new red paint that you've had some engine work done, and you're about ready to get this all closed up again. In order to really make this work, you'll have to take a couple of steps backwards. Go to the inliners.org web page, on the left side click on Tech Tips, then on Full Flow Conversion in the left column, then Chev 235/261 Full Flow up top. This will walk you through how to get 100% of your oil going through the filter, at pressure, just like the later inlines were designed to do. Later, K6
