Lemme know what you guys think of this ..not 100% done yet.. but really close.. it's hard to see the metalflake in the paint on these pics.. but hopefully you get the idea.. i was going for a late 50's to early 60's custom look with this.. still need hubcaps... tell me what you think would look good on there.. and what else i could do . i need to do some minor adjustments still but.. any feedback would be greatly appreciated... thanks ...
It looks like you need 4 of the 55 or 56 dodge lancer hubcaps I have,I have about 14 in various conditions. Jeff
hahah.. i dont mind em like that myself either for now.. but i defintely think i'll need some caps to complete the look im going for... i wonder if maybe dummy spots would be too much or too flashy?
How about a little critique? I think you missed a bit on the scallops...I don't recall scallop jobs (back it the '50's & 60's) covering the whole front of the car like you've done...scallops were small and narrow usually...and accented the body lines. As for the rest of the car, wide whites, hubcaps, skirts would complete the "look"...and obviously a R & P interior. R-
I agree it might be a little more flashy then cars of the times.... thanks for the honest feedback.. hopefully it will still get a warm reception when i take it to the 1st cruze night!! =D
It's kinda hard to tell at the angle of the picture, but i think you need to suck that grill back into the opening a few inches. You don't need it at the edge of the bumper. Needs a 49-50 merc. grill surround??. Now get out and drive it.
For whatever it's worth (you decide!) I would do something a little different on the grille opening. Fill it up a bit; recess the grille a little. You're definitely on the right track! It's a cool ride, & I'm glad you went with green! It reminds me of my 1st car: a 49' just like it, only navy blue. Stay on it! It's sharp!
I agree with the other guys about the grill, just suck it back a little. Not really feelin' the paint, either. It interrupts the body instead of complementing its lines, too much white on the front end makes it look chopped in half. On the positive side, you built a nice looking car, I'd like to see pictures of the build or before shots if you have any...
i would add some green scallops over the white frontend and it needs lowered a few inches. interested in trading anything for it?
Nice job. Love the green.... (My Opinion) Couple of changes in photoshop. Not really feeling the rear scallops and I also think the grille needs to go back a few inches. Take it for what it's worth.
looks good. i like the lancer cap idea, think it would look right for the car. the only thing i would do is lower it more, but i tend to get carried away....
Looks good! I think the Lancers would look great, but I have to agree that I'm not into the rear scallops myself. Still looks good.....
Hey kustom01, don't worry about the scallop critics unless, the OG"s saw every late 50's or early 60's scallop paint scheme in the country, they remember what we all saw and that was what was in the magazines. Milwaukee, Wis. 1960 Autorama, of all the custom cars, 3 had scalloped paint schemes, all with the front and sides laid out similar to your car. I had painted one of them, a 1950 Fordillac. Keep the faith. Car looks good.
Im a sucker for green cars w/ white scallops. Here's mine I can always find an excuse to show off Bass's handy work...
alright i dig the car and what youve done on a broad scale. but im going to be anal and send out a little critique. based on what i have seen through research and looking at many old car magazines, scallops and fades like this were rare done together. i dont know what it is, but it really clashes in my eyes. if it were me id have continued the front just solid white, or solid green with sublte scallops. OR id have painted the whole car white and faded the body lines and accents with that third color. just kind of looks all over the place. but then again i wasnt around back then so i dont know what the "trad rules" say or whatever. but if you like it then thats all that matters anyways oh and slam it with some caps as said above. keep it up !
Believe me when I say this car is a beast. I was with Kustom on Saturday night when he took it out. It scares old lady's and devirginizes college women. The pictures don't give the car credit where it's due, and that's in the millions of sparkels coming off this car. Nice car Shane. Joel
Looking good..Shave it, finish off the grille, french it front and back, 49 plymouth bumpers, duals out the back and you have got the right look. Oh yeah, don't forget the Lancers..... 31ACoupe
thanks.. i have TONS of hot rod books, old magazines and such.. and i really tried to go with things i had seen previously and what not.. too bad the pics dont show the metalflake in that baby.. it's alot of it.. it looks really good in person.. she really gets up and goes too.. it's got a 351 Windsor with a C6 trans.. new alum high rise intake, and 4barrel.. straight pipes all the way back.. gets up and hauls.. i love it... i cant wait till it's all finished up and i have everything fine tune adjusted!!
Maybe it's the small pics, but what's going on with the brown on the front? Is it a fade, is it in a pattern that I can't see? I agree that the grille looks better set further back, and also, less is more as far as the paint goes. 55 Olds ripple hubcaps would look nice on this.
