Well, I'm happy so I'm going to kick it off... I brought home my 1985 GMC donor van on Friday nite (that's a story in itself!), and with the help of a couple of friends, tore it apart on Saturday, then finished up on Sunday. Got the motor and 3spd trans out: And took a few photos of the truck sitting outside for the first time since before I had back surgery: I'm happy. Ben
about a week and a half ago i finished a motor swap on my 39 sedan.the org 221" flathead had started to knock, that even 50wt oil wouldn't cure.so i did a little side job and scored a fresh rebuilt 59ab,it's a 264"(3 1/4" bore x 4" stroke) with polished offy heads and a polished edmonds 2-2's running a nice pair of 94's. so for the past few days iv'e been fine tuning the motor, changing all the bulbs to 12 volt and doing a little rewiring. i wish i could post some pics but the resolution is too big to fit on the hamb, and i have yet to figure how to make them smaller,so ya'll will just have to see it at the round up.plus it will give me more time to get all the old dirt out of the engine compartment. -danny
Well on Saturday got my SBC hooked up so I could check out the starter, turns over just fine . Pretty soon it'll be ready to fire! Sunday cut my hands all up getting the brake brackets out of a 83 grand prix for my chevy, and brought home my other 51 chevy parts car !
I didn't do squat. Well other than the local HAMB meet n greet and cruise out to KCTACHRIS' to listen to the fresh fired Rocket in his new old coupe. Ooops I hope that wasn't a secrete.
The weather has been very mild in my part of maine this winter. So I took advantage of some warm (25f - 40f) and dry days and finished the roofing on my shop. Now all that's left is the trim, the doors, electrical, insulation, sheetrock, paint inside and out, finish grade earth work, etc, etc, etc..... Well, at least it'll be dry inside for the spring rain.
Too cold to do anything outside here in Ohio so I (yes a woman) spent some time at the He-man hang out working on the '37 Ford truck http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89029 Fabbed and welded shock mounts on (not pictured, will take more pics tonight). It's really coming together nice. I might have to own it when its done Should have been at home working on my '48 but sometimes it's nice to get a break. All in all a good weekend, man am I lucky!
For the past two weekends I got going on the $500 '55 Dodge I bought in December. Pulled off all the chrome and trim from the car to prepare for welding and bodywork, I welded up all the side trim holes that aren't getting used in preparation for the '56 Royal Lancer side trim and the ones on the trunk from the old car dealership tag, and moulded in some teardrop shapes on top of the rear quarters for dual antennas. Last night (Sunday) I dropped it off at my buddy Wilbur's shop where we're gonna do the bodywork and paint in two tone, yellow and black. Car should be done inside and out by the end of March.
Sectioned the inner wheelwells around the a-arm area of a 69 camaro so that it would be centered on the C-5 front suspension, pretty traditional ah.
Bought some parts for my '56, tore the steering column apart and got it ready to put in and welded up the floor and installed my shifter.
been running the speedster and getting the engine and the ch***is fine tuned. I have been working on the Master carb and finally have it leaned out to the point where i have to choke it to get it started. The engine runs great and pulls strong right up to 1500 rpm (redline is 2200) in overdrive up hill (3 - 4%) at about 50 mph but that is it. So i have some more tinkering to do. It will run down the flats at near 70 which is good. I wrapped the front spring in sisal cord to help check the rebound of the spring. it made one hell of an improvement. so now to do the same to the back spring.
Well after weeks of pimping around on other things I finally got out to the shop and got my roof section in;not finish welded yet.Welded up the uglies above the doors so I could get the drip rails tacked in.After a long delay I got the Model visor on the car;looks soooo much better now!
Hmm... 1) tore apart the Carter WCFB that Oldcarmike supplied for Lucy the Chrysler. 2) Tore apart the PS pump; replaced the seals, shot the reservoir. 3) Dropped the Powerflite trans pan, resealed it and replaced the neutral safety switch. 4) Replaced the valve cover gaskets. 5) finished replacing the blown 6V bulbs (some goober tried out a 12V battery on the car with the obvious result 6) rebuilt the carb in #1, above. 7) Fiddled with the radio and got that workin' agin. 8) cleaned up the 4V manifold and shot that with a nice coat of hi-temp silver. 9) Picked up a set of replacement rockers down in Westland 10) Took Lucy out for a shakedown spin (a little over 50 miles) - she ran out nice and didn't puke bodily fluids all over the garage when finished.
Went over to john Ford man's place and he welded up the panhard mount on Pepe, it makes a HUGE difference.
I put close to 200 miles on the roadster between Friday afternoon and Saturday night. It was in the 50's both days. Sure am glad I did that, it's been snowing and raining today. Gotta get in those roadster rides when you can.
not a whole lot, though i did pick up a couple t bodies. got one in the cl***ifieds if anybodys lookin http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89589
Nota traditional hot rod but I did get some work done. This will be my "push truck" one day. Well, slowly but surely, I am replacing my old broke motor (see pic) with a reman. I bought. I really don't have the money right now for a full resto so I am just trying to clean up a few things for my new(rebuilt) motor install. Once I get the motor painted and asembled, it will be the cleaned part of the whole truck. I figure I'll just do a piece at a time. Anyway since I have the engine out I decided to clean up the oil and muddy mess left behind by the old motor. I can't really get to all areas with out totaly dis***embling the front in so I am doing what I can for now. Should I repaint it or put some sort of coating? What about the areas I can't get the grease out? One of many dilemas. What I am doing is removing and painting the fender wells. I also decided to rattle can the outside of the truck with a Krylon satin paint. I am using it insted of primer. Seems to work ok and it's not glossy at all. Oh also check out the last pic. It's my ****** with a pretective shield of mud and dirt. Going to clean that up and replace the filter.
Well went to ***us's house picked him up went to a swap meet in anoka,Then went back to his house worked on the T putting on the tail lights a mount for the licence plate and a licence's plate light that i got from an old camper trailer. Then we mounted a 30 model A windshield frame and a 30 model A sun visor.
