Hi again guys, here's another question for you all. As some of you might no lol im putting a SBC into my 63 C10 fitted to a 700R4 transmission, its currently running a 3 speed Saginaw . My question, is there a crossmember kit for the 700R4 to fit straight to the 63 C10 ch***is or can the existing crossmember be used or fabricated to be used. Cheers Clean Kev
If the truck has a manual transmission now, then you probably want to remove the crossmember that is under the bellhousing. If you can find an original rear transmission crossmember from a 1963-72 chevy pickup that came with an automatic trans, you can use it, you'll probably need to drill holes in the frame to mount it far back enough to work with the 700. Or you can buy a "universal" transmission crossmember, but you'll need to figure out how high to mount it on the frame to get the transmission at the correct height (the transmission pan needs to be parallel to the frame rails). You will probably need to remove the original parking brake crossmember from behind the transmission, and replace the parking brake cables with a setup from a 66 truck.
Jim can you tell me where I can get a crossmember for my 700R4 transmission to fit the 63 C10? Cheers Kev
Don't s**** your original crossmember. I need one for my project! Any chance you live in new england?
I think this is what you are looking for.... http://www.cl***icparts.com/1963-72-Tubular-Transmission-Crossmember/productinfo/79-507/#
You can use the original crossmember, you just have to move it to the rear and redrill the frame. A very simple fix
