Harbor Freight has stud welders for $100.00 with slide hammer. I was skeptical until I bought one a used it today. Man if it only lasts one car it was worth way more than the hun I paid for it. Just p***ing it along.

  2. A friend of mine has one. Not sure what brand it is, but that's the cat's ***. $100 isn't a bad price!

I've been using one of those on a weekly basis for close to a year now, and no problems except the condom on the trigger fell off. Harbor Freight's got 2 models a 1% duty cycle and a 2% duty cycle. I've got the 1%'er. It's usually about $100, but if you watch their sales you can get it for like $80.

  7. I used one of them to fix an MG-B that an (uninsured) drunk ***** used to side swiped an entire row of 3ft tall telephone poles that were used as fence. He finally stopped when the door got mashed in so far, the rear door jamb caught on one of the poles.

He was a friend of my buddy and he didn't have the money for new parts. As an "apprenticeship" my buddy, who was teaching me metalfinishing, made me pull out the dents with one of those things, made a COMPLETE novice look like he could do nice work.

The car was finished and re-painted and the stupid **** did THE SAME DAMN THING 2 WEEKS LATER!

Be careful, if you try and pull the metal out too quick or too far, it'll just rip the metal around the stud head.

Don't try to use one of those on a '50 Merc without torch heating the area you're attacking. I tried it, and that old Mercury just laughed at me....

i got your STUD GUN right here, buddy!(grabs crotch):D

seriously, sounds like it may be one of HF's good buys. beats the hell out of the old backyard alternative: drilling holes for the slide hammer. i'm in the middle of re-fixing the smooshed 1/4 panel on a 51 chevy that someone used a slide hammer on, had close to 100 holes to weld up that were previously filled with mud.:(

While I HATE to send our money overseas (my best friend is homeless after his job of *21 years* was outsourced & he lost his house of *12 years*), I can understand when someone who is a hobbiest & will only use a tool once (or someone like me - broke as hell) will not want to spend more for a quality tool. I still think I'll wait untill I have the cash to buy one made in the good ole US of A.
The fact that you said you "DON'T CARE" is what is WRONG with this country!!! If ONLY someone CARED!!!!

Okay Driver, now you've offended my Red, White and Blue self. The fact is I am a hobbyist who spends countless hours in the garage playing, paying my taxes, and raising a good 'ol fashion American family. I am sorry your buddy lost his job and his house, but I am not what's wrong with America! In fact people like me who truly love the USA and all it brings us are what's right in America! The people working at Harbor Freight in Salinas I'm sure appreciate their job, people who work at the shipping docks, and all the other Americans that make purchases as this possible, and the fact that I am a paying customer doesn't help either. I'm just a regular guy who loves where he is and what he does. God Bless the USA for letting me have my own opinion and yours!

Well I DID say "I can understand when someone who is a hobbiest & will only use a tool once (or someone like me - broke as hell) will not want to spend more for a quality tool".
I'm just trying to wake up some folks to what is happening. What if it was YOUR job that got outsourced? What if YOU lost YOUR home? What would your family do? Do you know how many CHILDREN are in shelters with their parents 'cause of the corporate GREED in this country? Wouldn't you prefer folks buy American whenever possible to avoid that happening? Won't you?

Bottom line is I would prefer to buy American without a doubt! But I can't always afford the nice american stuff. Plus It is getting harder and harder to find true American things that have been made here. If you look even most of the American made stuff has been outsourced for some parts to another place. As the global economy becomes more and more prevalent we have to find ways to keep Americans employed in America this I agree. So driver what does your buddy do and where is he at. I've got alot of friends in alot of places.

word of warning if you are going to use a stud gun so you dont have to put holes in the car make sure you apply some kind of rust protection to the inside of the panel.

He worked a union job in a machine shop. A company that made the big production line machines for Lays (a**** several others) that packages your chips & candy (& a myriad of other things). I think he was doing mostly layout & running the machines that use lazers & water to cut thick metal. He's in Oregon now I'm not sure which city offhand. The *real* ***** is he was less than 18 months from RETIRING with a pension!

The timing ****s, but There is a huge Union presence in Oregon. I was a Carpenter in the union up there. Portland also has a huge Millwright Union which he could probably transfer into with that much experience. Let me know if I can help.

    Good Luck,

    Tim
