Somewhere I saw pictures of a field of Hemis mounted vertically on top of poles. They were powering some method of irrigation for crops.

A friend of mine bought a 48 Lincoln Continental Coupe with an early Hemi in it. The guy he bought it from said the swap was done the first year the hemi was available.
He got well selling that car.

Not a normal home for a Chrysler, but I like it.

I just became aware of this from another thread: The 426 Hemi was optional for an upcharge, while the 440 was the standard engine.

The Monteverdi 375-Series was in aberration in many ways. Although Switzerland stands proudly independent amidst Italy, France, and Germany, it has never developed a strong native motor industry. Observers were thus quite surprised in 1967 when Binningen-based businessman Peter Monteverdi announced that he would not only build a car in Switzerland but that it would take on the world’s premier high-performance makes.

Predictably, he took the simplest and most practical route to his new GTs, designing the ch***is himself but looking to the Italians for styling help and to Detroit for drivetrains. The Ferrari-esque model designation referred to the SAE gross horsepower of the standard 440-cubic-inch Chrysler V-8 (re-rated by the mid-Seventies to 305 bhp SAE net). For a not-so-few dollars more, you could order a “High Speed” model powered by the famed 426-cid hemi with 450 bhp (SAE gross). Either could be teamed with Chrysler 4-speed manual or 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The latter would end up being fitted to most of the relatively few 375s built during the series’ 10-year lifespan.

Gosh, I don't know HOW we missed fully discussing the Franco-American hybrid Facel Vega of '54 to '64 earlier. VERY RARE but VERY keen Hemi-powered (meaning, a few of the earlier ones). IN A REAL SENSE, MOST OF THE ONES SOLD EARLY ON IN THE U.S. WERE NOT "FRENCH" CARS SO MUCH AS THEY WERE GREAT-LOOKING PERFORMANCE CARS! Most of the Hemi cars came back to America, ya see, after ***embly in France.

HAMBer Larry (PalosFV3) has a NICE 354-powered '57, which is going to auction next week, incidentally. Here's a tad of commentary from him.

"Just a quick note on the Hemi powered Facels. There were just under 300 FV series Facels made. There were a number of different Chrysler engines used, 276 Desoto's. 330 Desoto's. 331 Chryslers and around 60 poly head Chrysler engines. The 68 FV4s were the only Facel produced with the 354/392 hi-po Hemi from the 300 series Chrysler letter cars. When Chrysler discontinued the Hemi Facel went to the 361/383 wedge motors. The hi performance version Chrysler engines were only placed into a small number of Facels and are rare a**** the rare. I'm surprised that several of you remembered my car. Its up for auction next week at the Russo and Steele Auction in Scottsdale, Az. If your attending stop by and say hello."

  13. Back in the late 60's I lived in Oxnard, CA. Spotted a '61 Impala 2 door hardtop with a 392 type hemi in the back row at the local Chevy used car lot. I had a '61 Belair 283 powerpack 3 speed overdrive at the time so wasn't real interested.
