Projects 48 Plymouth 4 door bagged build

    This is a build I've been working on for forever but I've been doing a fair amount of work on it recently so I figured I'd make a new build thread.
    If you haven't seen the old thread it's a 48 Plymouth special deluxe 4 door. I swapped the body onto an s10 frame because the old frame was in horrible shape. It has a small block Chevy and th350 under the hood
    Working on getting it driving now so I can cruise it to school if I want

  5. Interesting way of running the headers. I'm assuming you're going to run 180º bend pipe downward?

  6. why not just use a set of stock rear exit manifolds?

    I'll clean up the shop and take some pics of it tomorrow. And yeah I'm going to do a 180 bend and bring them outside the frame rails. Stock manifolds had clearance issues too

    First time running it with the new headers on. Sounds way better than the old manifolds!
    I haven't had much progress lately though because I've been working on this new toy

    The gas tank I'm using is from a 68 Camaro. Picked it up for $80. Making custom mounts and straps for it. Also hammered down the edges so that it sits as high up as possible.

    Getting to work again on this thing after not having a shop for a few months. Got rid of the cowl vent and all the rust that came with it. I have to say I surprised myself with how good this came out. The rear isn't welded because I have to figure something out for the windshield rust. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1411813908.551259.jpg
    Patched another rust hole on the roof that I didn't like.

    Played with this old patch I did out of 22 gauge steel but it still looks like shit.

    Bought this bumper a while back but just fitted it. Still need 3 nuts and bolts to hold it in place. I believe it came off of a 50 chevy truck but it fits nice.

    Looks like an old custom. Great to see a motivated guy bringing it back. Your fab skills will be necessary to fix all that rust, but the results will be worth it I'm sure. Any photos of when you first got the car?

    Thanks for the pics & details. It looks like you have a lot of fun welding to do on the body. Fortunately my rust is all in the floor. I just got back on mine after some time on other projects, and it's always a big relief to get back at it.

    I'm afraid it'll rust away before I can get the paint on it. :D

    Yeah there's a crazy amount of rust repair. Trying to find a donor car to get the windshield frames from though. I've been working on more rust repair on the roof and then I'll prime it and paint it with single stage to seal it panel by panel. Mine started to rust away on me while it was in storage

    All of the rust on the roof is cut out. Need more sheet metal so I can make the last patch and weld the rest

    Finished welding all the holes on the roof. I'm planning on priming and single stage painting each panel to help seal it from rusting again

    Are you going to use a 2-part primer?

    Right now, 95% of my exterior body is bare metal, shot with rattle-can clear paint, or in some places just greased to prevent rusting. Because I don't have a big shop or 8 hours a day to work on my car, I'm going to have to clean, finish & paint it in separate panels as I go along. This means a lot of small batches of primer & paint, which seems to make the idea of 2-part primer a PITA.

    I get this rattle can primer from standard auto body supplies locally and it's pretty good. It's a big can of primer/sealer for $10. The coverage is great but it doesn't complete seal it and surface rust pokes through after a while outside. The purple paint I'm using is a single stage paint but it's what I use as my shops "signature color" so whenever I get leftovers from spraying parts I'll spray my Plymouth some

    Pretty big update here! Just drove a few hundred miles to pick up an almost rust free 47 Plymouth 2 door sedan. I'm going to pull the 4 door off its frame and put the 2 door on it and chop the roof a few inches

    Hey, an easy 2-door! What luck!

    I don't think I've seen a P15 2dr sedan chopped.

    Probably the easiest way I could do a 2 door conversion and fix all my rust at the same time. I may or may not chop it though just to get it on the road before I get old
