It's odd that they ran them at Muroc it 1938-39 but the spec sheet says they use valvetrain components from a SBC that didn't come out until 1955.o_O

I'm guessing from the specs, they are re-pops. Look like they're nicely done, but I was hoping to see some pics of the combustion chambers & ports. Both orig & the re-pop version. & I'd also guess it'll take the equal weight of them, in $100.00 bills, to acquire them. :( .

Gary's farther originally built and ran them at Muroc. He made new patterns to take more modern off the shelf parts. Hes had them at LARS and I think he gets $6500 for them ready to bolt on.

I found an old flyer on these the other day and they were one of this mornings conversations at breakfast with a couple of friends. What a coincidence. Does anybody here have any more detailed pics showing a set bolted on with the valve covers off ? How about experience with street driving ?

Fantastic looking set of heads. Uncle Buck could be right about the fitment on a block that has been relieved. Any additional information on these heads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for posting the additional information on the Dixon heads flthd31. The pictures along with the tech article and the video gives a tremendous amount of information on these heads. flthd31 would this be your flathead engine in the video?

How much power will they support? Seems like a lot of $$$$ for 150HP, but I get the unique application point a bit, maybe, not sure. Can you build 150HP with standard flathead parts (common aftermarket stuff)? Is the look worth the cost? How durable have they proven to be after 10yrs?

Some Dixon Photos for your review. I went to visit Gary Richards the other day and to my surprise he's up to making a new pattern for the full overhead Dixon head. Evidently Dixon manufactured three types of conversions over the years for the beloved flathead including the F-head and the full overhead. He's still in the pattern phase but his work is impeccable. The engine and photos are courtesy of Greg Buller.

Karl, Didn't mean full overhead as in cam, just intake and exhaust valves. Sorry for any confusion. Great photos!

  22. Moonlight Graham, those are OHV heads not OHC.

Karl, at a guest I would say they are Dixon. They don't look like ***mings, Tornado or Birner OHV heads.

Very interesting. I have been wanting a F-head for years. Any pics of Gary Richards combustion chambers? Are they done from the original patterns? Anyone running F-heads? I guess the old exhaust valve area needs to be plugged and machined to get a sealing surface. I'm very interested, keep posting to this thread please.

    Thanks,
    Magnus

A wide groove usually about 1/8" deep cut from the valves to the cylinder on a flathead. Supposed to improve flow of the fuel mixture as the piston goes down, but also reduces compression. Of course there have been many different styles and sizes over the years.

So, the full overhead Dixon uses an adapter to route the intake ports from a stock pattern manifold into the new heads? Kinda like a mid-manifold?

Alchemy, Definitely an adapter to go between the intake and OHV heads. Not sure if a valley cover is required but I think it might be. Perhaps casting a OHV specific flathead intake would be a good idea.
