Started working on a 26 27 Model T V8 pickup roadster on Model A frame and came across this. I do not have all the answers but this ain't my first rodeo. In fact the p***enger side came off without any issues. When it came to the driver side a totally different story. I tried patients first but they ran out by the first week. I tried penetrating oil, time, left the hub tool for about a week, heated the snout and later a smaller hammer. Finally moved to a bigger hammer.
It was not the brake shoes stuck to the drum or the e-brake. It was not a grove on he drum. They are still stuck even after all the banging.
I tried including pictures but they are too big. I included links to where the images are.

    Any suggestions?

  2. It might be time to get a better puller. I like the reproduction KR Wilson one but several less expensive ones look good. Any chance a local club has one to rent or loan? It looks like you have already ruined your axle.

  3. Anyone working on tapered axles needs a heavy duty, dog bone wheel puller. Nothing else will do

  4. What is a dog bone wheel puller? I have never heard the name used before. Is there a picture in a vendor catalog (or anywhere) that I could get a look at?

Dude....you need one of these as stated above dog bones and a large sledge hammer.... wheel puller.jpg

  6. Thanks for the picture. I can see the dog bone. I will stick with my KR Wilson puller that pulls from the groove on the hub.

As a Firestone brake mechanic, the problem I have had with the type you mention is that even though the hub plate looks stout, the puller could bend it or it could slip off. The dog bone style will NOT slip off. Good luck with whichever one you choose.

  9. Nothing wrong with a KR Wilson, but a dog bone puller will work 10 times better on badly stuck drums.

Put a bunch of puller load on it and heat it up, even a small hardware store propane torch would help.....and then wack the he.. Out of the end of the puller!

Obviously I ruined the drum. I also damaged the axle-it used to turn the differential input shaft but not anymore.
I will get the better puller. And a replacement axle......
Thank you all for the help.
