Thanks for the pictures of the bed distance to the cab. That will be useful this weekend when I try to fit the bed on. I'm not sure if all of the pictures I have loaded show up so I will start over from last night. The rust has been like ants. Just when you think you've killed all of them, a few more show up and you find a new nest. Once inside of the cab, behind the seat base was a ton of rust. So much so that it all had to be cut out and a new piece formed and welded in. It's hard to see in this ****py pic A fellow club member (Flapper here on the HAMB) gave me a smokin' deal on new wheels. So good I couldn't p*** it up. I will use the difference on what I was going to spend on new wheels and tires and put that toward more work on the cab. Today was a monumental day. the entire cab is now in epoxy primer Now the fun starts. Sanding and primer X 100
I was at the shop today seeing the work and my cab too has some pinholes in the back behind the seat. It may end up looking like yours. IMG_1429 by BEM posted Nov 14, 2014 at 2:08 PM
I've heard of others with the same problem. It's such an incon****uous place I wonder why they rust there? Bem, yours is looking good
I haven't shown any pictures but I've been working on the rear fenders on the second floor of my garage. It's taken me about 2 weeks on and off to get them ready for their first blast of high fill primer. I chose white primer hoping that it will show the high and low spots better. Besides, grey primer is too common. Yes, that is a bunch of runs in the first picture. The spray gun was leaking until I figured out the needle wasn't in tight.
Things look better when the project is all one color, even in primer. You are lucky to have real steel rear fenders. I barrowed the ones off my truck just before I sold it for my new project.
It took a lot of time and a lot of money to get the dents hammered out of those rear fenders. The guy who hammered them is a very talented guy. Hope to put a guide coat on them this weekend.
Im doing a similar build with an S10 ch***is. Do you know if your ch***is is from a short or long bed truck?
I think it's a short bed. I can measure it this weekend if that would help you. The original box seemed to fit on it perfectly but I bought a new box from Pro's Pick. Will do a test fit this weekend. Do you know the wheel base difference between a long box vs short box?
I've been busy since the last post. I have removed the cab from the S10 ch***is. (it was shortened to 112" and is for sale. The ad was deleted by a moderator). Made the decision to ditch the S10 ch***is due to too many 'Bubba" fixes to get the cab and box to fit properly. The guy who I bought it from was definitely winging it, using whatever parts he had on hand. Not far from me is Lucky 7 Ent. Great guys who build solid ch***is from scratch. Here are a few shots of the ch***is under construction. It will be a complete rolling ch***is when done using all new components.
I spent the day filling about 1000 holes in the firewall. I guess over 75 years each hole served a purpose. Next step is bondo!
Shhh don't tell anyone but mine is on a ranger frame,it is what is .Keep up the good work ,I like where this is going Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
You're speaking of the back of the cab?...usually the pounding the front bed piece takes, puts it right up the the back of the cab, debris, ec sit in there, rain, etc as well as just wear, take it's toll.
Jim636.....damn, your truck looks great. Maybe a ranger ch***is is the way to go. Budget36, yeah, that makes sense. Trucks were used back in the day!
No 36couper keep doing what your doing. It was a pain in the **** putting it on a ranger frame ,but at the time it was all I could afford. The original frame was trash.
A body man once told me to account for one day per panel when doing body work. So far I've got 4 days invested in two panels. I'm trying to get as much done on the cab as I can before the ch***is gets delivered at the end of this week. I have the p***enger door and the rear of the cab done. Here is my progress
It's been ages since I updated this. The summer is flying by! I have to travel virtually every week for work so it doesn't leave a lot of time for the truck. However, today I got it mocked up. Still a handful of things to fix. I will blow it apart this week and move it into my portable garage next weekend for the never ending saga of prime/sand, prime/sand. It looks pretty good so far but I know there will be a number of speed bumps ahead of me. Sometimes work gets in the way of our hobby...........but it pays for the addiction.
The wheels I bought from a club member had to wrong offset so I had to sell them and but new wheels and tires. I got a great deal on these Foose wheels at the GG show in Columbus. You can barely see the portable garage in the back ground where I will be spraying high build primer next weekend. It will look better as all one color. I expect it to be done Fall 2016. I change my mind every week about the color. This week it is Mercedes silver. Last week it was Folkstone gray (an original 1940 color). I've ruled out Dove gray.
I'm pretty pathetic when it comes to build threads. I spend almost every weekend on some aspect of building this truck. I've made some progress but with everything, there is one step ahead and two steps back. I'll let the pictures do the talking. I took the body off the ch***is to get the ch***is ready for paint. I know this looks precarious but it was actually pretty sturdy. I was inspired by the thread about painting your car in your driveway. It's not actually on my driveway but I bought a portable garage for painting. It works pretty good. Here is the ch***is in primer It's getting dark pretty early now so I had to improvise with a spot light. After the ch***is primer can the shiney stuff. There was a lot of dust floating around but it turned out pretty well considering The next step is to ***emble the ch***is and then get back at primer, sanding and blocking the rest of the sheetmetal. That checker floor is a ***** to keep clean!!
Very nice! Can't wait to get going on mine. Wish there was a way to recover your lost pics. Thanks, Photobucket! *****s!
