4 years ago I hauled this '31 coup from Colarado to New Jersey and now I'm finally getting around to making some progress. Initially I was going to go with a flathead V8 but I really got into the old banger hotrods and decided to go that route since it's really something ya don't see all that often. So I ended up spending way wayyyy more than I should have on this motor but whatever go big or go home. Welcome to the banger lovers portion of the forum. Looks like your on your way to building a fine coupe. Let us know what all you've done to the engine, and what future plans are.

Thanks guys, I wanted to do inserts in the motor but I couldnt find anyone to do it in my area for a reasonable number. I got a quote of like $2500 just to do them so I said babbit is. I have larger intake valves installed with seats and a mild race cam from Bill Stipe at specialty motor cams. We ran into a bit of an issue with the block height. It seems that the block had been decked quite a bit at some point in its history so when it was decked this time the pistons and valves stuck up out of the block .20 thousandths. So the pistons and valves had to be cut down to compensate for this. Had I known this I would have sought out another block to start out with because it ended up costing me a few extra bucks. The babbit was already done so it was too late haha. The flywheel and clutch ***embly is lightened and balanced. The Winfield head is a repop one 7:1 compression. I wanted to come up with a vintage one but I didn't find one for a reasonable number in time. The oiling system is stock. I have a vintage Mallory distributor and a Burns intake with a single stromberg 97. It would be nice to do something different with the trans but I've spent enough money for now. Hopefully the thing doesn't blow up on me cuz I plan on hammering on it.

This looks great!!! You are going to have fun with it. Yeah...easy to wrap the dough up quick in one but you will be happy with how it runs. Can't wait to see this come together!!

A NOS Mallory distributor would be a kick*** find. Keep your eyes on eBay, on here and the swap meets.

Had to do the same thing with my pistons...after decking, they stood up .050" (stock was around .035")...ended up milling .015" off the piston tops.

Haha well the flatty was just mocked up in there so no I didn't ruin a real treasure if that's what anyone is thinking.

Good build on the motor, had a B motor in my 30 pickup, Winfield head, B cam, Ansen manifold, Holley 94 and a Mallory distributor. Put V8 gears in the 32 trans, syncro 2nd and 3rd. Knocked the rods out of it twice, put an H&H inserted motor in it a couple of years ago, been real happy with it . I would buy the adapter and put a V8 trans in if you plan to drive the car a lot, straight cut gears with no syncro's are a little tricky to drive. Have 2 Model A's with bangers, one stock and the pickup with the H&H and are a lot of fun but still 50 - 55 mph cars. The pickup is a daily driver, sits outside and goes in all kinds of weather.

Had a NOS Mallory for a late flathead afew years ago, so there are some still out there. Have a Mallory for the delivery, plan to send it to Bubba for a rebuild. Picked up a couple sets of points and rotors off of ebay 3 years ago and bought a nice barely used cap from Berts, so likely beyond getting the mechanical advance right it should not be bad. I've got an old Mallory dual point on my banger. Keeps burning up coils and condensers. Might be the dumb way ford runs the ignition.
