Hi all, now that the 55 Ford tube grill is done and the tail lights, I'm starting on installing some side pipes. After a long look under the car iv'e found that there are four body to chassis bolts sticking out about an inch. My plan was to use 1" solid round stock, but wasn't having much luck finding any drop offs. SO went to Lowes yesterday and got 4 3/4 inch 4" long bolts. I cut them off 2 1/4 inches from the top of the head. Drilled a 5/16 hole down threw the bolt in the center. That will tap with a 3/8 16nc tap. This will now screw on the body bolt under the car. Then the pipe bracket (acquired from Speedway) can be mounted to the head of the bolt with a 3/8 1" long bolt. I've used a flat piece of steel for a support and washer. This will help hold up the bracket since its out on the end for mounting.
Its gotten really cold here today so might be few days before we finish the project. I've got three more of these bolts to make then install the pipes.

The phrase "More than one way to skin a cat" comes to mind.

Before you spend any more money on the shiny stuff you might consider some new floor supports, this one looks a little holy.

Wouldn't 3/8" "coupler" nuts accomplish the same thing? Just less fun doing it that way.

Thanks but its OK, it has lots of that old Oklahoma mud on it. Probably should of steamed cleaned it first. There is good metal under all that.

OK I see now that the channel on the floor pan the end is gone. I'm still waiting for "Overhauln" to call or come get the car. HAHAHA.
