Vintage shots from days gone by!

The discussion states that it was car #1023 and was destroyed in a fire at a mattress factory where it was stored in the '70's. No one seems to have a recollection of the car actually racing which makes the photo suspect. There are probably others here who are better informed on the subject than me.

 

Got these from a friend and have no idea on where, when, and who took them.

The Hindustan Ten was an Austin 10hp made under licence in India from the 1940s. The next model was the Amb***ador and was made from 1957 until May of this year, and was based on the 1950s Morris Oxford.

 

It's amazing how "connected" this hobby is, even over 6000 miles. My younger brother Jimmy owns Mart's old '46 Coupe and I have Chris Swenson's (another HAMBer, from Spokane WA) '46 Pickup,my avatar.

 

The gentleman looking at the scale is Radio Gardner, a long-time Novi crewmember. I had the opportunity to meet him in 1985 in Portsmouth, OH at the local Ford Dealership. I was the Ford Service Rep. for the area and Radio was complaining about his LTD’s fuel mileage. Radio was friends with several high-level Ford employees and would call to complain from time-to-time. Whenever this happened, the Service Rep would get involved. He was pretty cantankerous at first but I knew of his involvement with the Novi and started to talk to him about it. We were soon best buddies and had a great conversation about the “old days” at Indy. He was a real character, as I’m sure many of the old-timers were, and I really enjoyed meeting him.
