Truly a sad day. Ever since I first got crazy about Mercurys, Dyno Don was my hero. I've had his pics and bio on my web site from the beginning.

If you want the whole Dyno Don story check my web site.

  4. Dang it. I had a hunch the other day (after Gene Mooneyham) there'd be another great or 2 p*** away soon, they usually go in 3's.

Somehow it seems like these guys would be around forever....

One consolation, these guys led cool lives doing what they wanted, that's for sure.

    RIP Don.:(

We'll miss the pioneers of our Hot-Rodding, without them none of us would be meeting here with our common interest, HOT RODS!!!!

Have a buddy that raced with Dyno Don in late 60s he ran a cammer Ford!!!

    Thanks for way cool memories!!!

I remember him well from the days at Detroit dragway with the 62 chevy 409 racing against the ramchargers, Bob Ford, Grumpy Jenkins, Roger Lindamood etc. What a bummer!

What a bummer, he was and will always be one of my favorites.

One of my best memories of New England Dragway involves Don. It's been about 30 years so I may not have all the details straight. In the mid to late 70's I believe the pro-stocks ran in their local NHRA division races as well as the national events. NED advertised heavily on the local radio stations (SUNDAAAAAAAAY!) that the division 1 cars would be there, including Bill Grumpy Jenkins. No mention of Dyno Don, as he wasn't in division 1. We were thrilled to get there and find him in the pits with his Mustang II. Dyno won the race, didn't score any division 1 points, but kept his archrival Grumpy from gettin' 'em. I don't recall how it played out in the season championship, but what a great story.

Another great one gone. He will be remembered for his Ford contributions but his earliest conquests were with a Chevrolet 409. I remember well the battles he and Hayden Profitt had with their '62 bubble tops. Eventually Hayden was caught "tweeeking" his ride and was banned from N.H.R.A. but before if happened he and Dyno put on quite a show.
Truly one of the greats. Godspeed Don.
