Can someone tell me if it was an option when new to go with either a vinyl or cloth headliner or did it come only with vinyl on the Customline? I need to replace mine and am thinking about doing it myself. Is one easier to install than the other? I've never done one.

    Thank you.

I just did the headliner in my 52 Victoria. The car had vinyl in it when I got it and decided to replace with vinyl. I custom ordered what I thought to be a quality/custom fit headliner. The headliner I got was average quality and average fit at best. My upholstery guy told me to use a power steamer to smooth it up. Might consider having an upholstery shop make a custom headliner---probably get a better fit. Mine has some wrinkles in the rear---not real bad though. I just think these aftermarket headliners are somewhat generic in nature.

Some Customlines had cloth headliners after years of being exposed to smokers they would rot and fall apart so at some time it could have been replaced with vinyl. Our Fords used a bow type headliner and the Ford Shop Manual states that the rear gl*** be removed you can watch this video to see what is involved and decide if you can or want to do it yourself:

I did mine....really good quality kit from www.automotiveinteriors.com in Worcester, M***. Lots of fabric choices. you can send for fabric swatches. I have a hard time working with my arms over my head, so this little project took the better part of a week a few hours a day. First pic is with the back end not even stretched yet headliner, pace 008.JPG headliner 002.JPG

Looks great Texas57! I need to put one in my 56 one of these days. Mine doesn't have any rips or anything but is water stained in a couple areas. On my list at least, just no where close to the top...

Thanks. Mine got put ahead on the schedule so I could get the gl*** installed. I still don't have the gl*** installed, and those headliner pics were over two years ago. Hey Guthrie (?)...anything going on out your way after Christmas? I'm itching for a road trip.
The original poster...ShawninCO...I'm curious/confused....are you from New Hampshire, but now living in Co.?
