Hi everyone I'm trying to remove the steering column out of my 55 I have all ****** linkage disconnected and I loosened the pinch bolt/clamp on the bottom of the column where it meets the gearbox, I can get it to slide about a inch or so then it stops is something I need to remove in the steering wheel? Thanks guys

The steering shaft is part of the steering box and does not remove without dis***embling the box. If you do not want to remove the steering box, along with disconnecting the shift levers and dash bracket you will have to remove the steering wheel.

These don't come out thru the firewall as a complete unit as on the '57's?

Yes they come out pretty much the same. Although having recently pulled a steering box and column out of a 56, with the engine and exhaust in the car it is a pain in the rear.
