I'm looking for seat belt ideas for my 30 ford pickup. Lap belts seem like the only option being that the B pillar is mostly wood. Anyone have any experience with this or know of a thread I could check out. I tried the search but didn't luck out there. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Only shot I have of them right now. I welded brackets to the seat frame to bolt the belts to. Way stronger then attaching to sheetmetal.
If you bolt to sheetmetal it just pulls through. See the video of the '55 Chevy drag car rollover where the guy ends up with his feet out the windshield opening. I have part of a factory add-on set for '61 Dodge and it comes with thick rectangular anchors for the bolts.
Go to Julianos on line catalog go to the how to section they show how to install three point belts in a mid thirties gm truck they have a bunch of parts to retro fit belts to just about anything make sure you read all the info.
+1 for Juliano's. They sell anchor plates to reinforce the floorpan so the bolt stays put in the event of an accident. Funny story - tearing apart my '61 Caddy to install seat belts and somebody had installed GM belt kit in center rear seating position. Somewhere along the line somebody decided to hide them under the seat bottom. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Link to an old tech article on seat belt installation in a pickup. You may have to reinforce/improvised for the third (shoulder) belt anchor. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/seat-brackets-and-seatbelt-tech-post.231909/#post-2464785
Belts in my "A" Tudor Sedan-mini-van seat with Juliano's latch style belts running through the back to a piece of 2 1/2" X 2 1/2" angle(full width), bolted through the sub-frame to brackets welded to the frame itself.Overkill? Maybe, but I didn't want to get launched through a 10" high windshield! Sometimes more IS better.
You could do what the previous owner of my truck did. Build a mounting frame for the bucket seats out of 2x4 lumber and just lag bolt the seat belts to the wooden frame, then just cover it all up with carpet!!
Thanks for the replies. I had forgot that I had asked about this. When I got the truck it had a plywood box riser for the homemade bomber seats and a 3' sword blade in between for a shifter so you could slice your arm off as your going through the window. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
This would work well for my truck. I have a dodge caravan seat that fits perfect. I just have to work out a way to mount it safely to the riser. Thanks. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I saw an interesting set up in the parking lot the other night. It was about a 1990 dodge truck. The bucket seats contained a headrest and also provided the attachment for the shoulder harness. Wish I could have found the year. Now all you need is to figure out how to attach them firmly to the floor. Charlie Stephens
Seat I used was the middle Caravan seat(42 or 44 " ?)I built a tapered "riser" out of 2x4's with a piece of 3/4 ' ply on top, then used the track bolts from the original base to bolt the seat down.I fastened the "riser" to the floor with angle iron on both ends.Figured if I was sitting on the seat (200#), with the seat belt on which was bolted to the frame, that seat ain't goin noplace- if there's enough impact to shear 3/8" Gr. 8 bolts, that Model A is a gonner for sure ( and so's the pilot!)
