Ive been trying to find other info or other trucks that this has been done on. Surely this one truck cant be the only one. Its very subtle, they chopped a small bit out between the windshield and drip rail. The article I saw it in describes it as a gentlemans chop. Would like to see pics of how it was done.
If you look at the profile of a 53-55 F-100, the top dips lightly towards the back. The "gentleman's chop" refers to chopping the front just enough to straighten out the backwards slant of the roof. On the truck pictured, I'd say they cut the area between the windshield and drip rail, then took a cut out of the front post on the door. It's a popular thing to do on the 53ish Studebaker speedster hardtops too.
I ran into a guy at a show who used the same expression. Curious myself has to how it is done. Would like to do it on my 56. Bump to the top and hoping for input also.
just picked up a 54 f100...thx for posting...this looks like an easy chop...no messing with the gl*** which few can cut without breaking several in the attempt
I don't think the 56's have the rearward slant to the roof like the 53-55. I have seen 56's that were chopped where they slide the gl*** up into the eyebrow/visor area and make a channel for it to sit in. I believe gibbon fibergl***' "second chance cl***ics" division used to make a gl*** roof with the channel premade. The rearward slant on the 53-5 cabs gets even more pronounced when they are chopped. Most people will just cut a straight mount across the top. They need to have more cut from the front post to level the side windows, as the top of the side window is not parallel with the bottom!
That is, or was Rob MacGregor's truck. He owns No Limit Engineering www.nolimitengineering.com He is a super nice guy and I would guess he wouldn't mind telling ya how he did it. He used to be in San Bernardino but now he is located in Dandridge Tenn. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App
I cut the top on this truck in the 80s . I took the same amount out of the A and B posts. The rear slant is not as pronounced as I thought it would be. It doesn't bother me enough to go back and re cut it.
