After driving my 5 window for 3 years I am thinking remodel it is a fun car to drive but I was thinking pull the small block ford out and putting my 331 hemi in it or a little flathead in it but I can't make my mind up but the disc brakes are gone my Bob Wilsons brakes are going on and my 16" steelies the car was channeled badly when I found it Now I am thinking back to the past . Well I was wondering if this is what I should do I am just ready for a change !
Fire up the torch, grab a hand full of new cut off disc's and get after it. I know where your at, as I have done it before and I'm sketching out ideas for the 3rd makeover of my Coupe.
I have outrun most of the street rods in my neck of the woods with the 347 5 speed but I have been driving a flathead car some and that sound ! But a slobbering hemi ? Well a channeled chopped 5" 32 might be fun to drive 354 hemi with a solid cam or a 287 flat motor or as mentioned a 364 Buick I think a nostalgia motor is in order
I'm with you. My plans are to redo/undo my 32. Really want it more traditional. Bought it as is, but hate to take a running driving car entirly apart. Can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs. Not all motion is progression. One of those. Either way. My vote is stick with and work on what you got!
I didn't have the motor I wanted when I was building the car but I have collected a few !plus a 331 2 - 4 caddy
it's probably just me , but i have a hard time tearing apart a good running and driving hot rod that's basically fine the way it is. unless it's a total mess , i'd just make a few minor changes/updates/repairs it needs and call it good. changing stuff like wheels/tires/gauges/steering wheel/interior etc can make a big difference yes, get rid of the disc brakes i know there are a lot of guys who tear apart their car regularly to make changes , but if i want something different i build another car
As much as I like a chopped and channeled coupe to look at I'd leave that one alone and concentrate on doing the engine swap and maybe a wheel and tire swap. I'd think that channeling it would take it from the car that you drive the wheels off anytime headed anywhere without a second though to one that only gets driven on "special" occasions or ends up being the one that only goes to close by events while the "boring but more comfortable" vehicle in the batch ends up being the one that gets to go on the road trips. I lived in Texas the first eight years after I got out of the Army and got married to a Texas gal and Living in Texas means you have to have a hot rod that you don't bat and eye at jumping in and doing a 200 mile one way run to a one day event and plan on being home before the late news comes on. I'm not sure that a chopped and channeled rig will get that done unless you are not much taller tan 5'6".
Thanks guys she might just get a hood and some brakes and have Bobs ol 39 Mercury that could use that hemi !
I think the flat head you mention would be 304 cu inch, and probably 225 hp in street trim. I'm 75 years old, 6' 0" tall, 185 lb. My '32 sedan is chopped 4 3/4", channeled depth of frame, and a pain to drive in traffic. Unless you are much younger and/or shorter, I'd suggest you leave the body alone and get creative in the engine.
