They were just interviewing the director on TV. It's a do***entary about the real race that The Cannonball Run was based on. Could be cool when it's finished. Click on the Trailer ****on. http://32hours7minutes.com
That does look awesome, will that make the theaters, or just be another movie you never see again. Chris
The director was really vague about details like that. I'm guessing film festivals, art theaters and the DVD. I'll buy it!
A little OT but i used to work for a guy named Alf Gebhart and somehow his wife was related to this guy everybody called "Uncle Tulley" {his real name something like Anatolly Arnitunove or something}. Well I was reading a book and came across his name and him being in one of the Cannonball runs, which was really cool. What was almost as cool is this hand built 1961 Ferarri convertable V-12 he left at the shop for a while....I wonder what that would have brought at B-J? Well anyways when you see the show listen for his name!
My buddy worked on the Cannonball Run movie, but I'll have to ask him if he knew any of the real guys (or girls?)
Don't mean to hijack the post or anything, but any of you guys ever see that run started up a few years ago called Gumball rally? I think they did a couple across Europe and then one across the States? Those guys are maniacs! Paul
Brock Yates...What a cool ****ing guy! I read this as a kid, have wanted to do it ever since... http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=4&article_id=9536
I read the Yates book about the race, its funny as hell..... looks like this movie will be pretty good too.
You mean the "Cannonball-Baker sea to shinning sea memorial trophy dash". Didn't check the link out: just don't have time to deal with whatever pop-ups, script errors, & everything else I run across in those things. BTW: what does "s/b cool" mean? ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" Easy on the Giggle Cream!
Not to split hairs but this movie isn't about the "real" Cannonball Run, it's about the event that started after the Cannonball stopped...there's no Yates, no Gurney, no Toly Arutunof, or any of the people that ran in the real Cannonball in that trailer, unfortunately. Anyone that's interested should definitely pick up the book that Yates (and all the drivers) wrote about the event...some of the stories are unreal and he does go into a lot of detail about how the movie missed the mark in a big way (Steve McQueen was originally meant to play the lead, etc.) Cris
From what the woman said, some of the people didn't want to be interviewed. Plus, she mentioned Brock Yates involvement. So I think it's the same deal. I really don't know. Either way it's pretty *****in'. s/b=should be
Cool. A few years ago I got the book "Cannonball!" Pretty cool with interviews with all the original drivers telling thier stories. Good stuff
didn't finish reading the thread, sorry. the book is great, really funny...one day i will do a memorial to it!
Perhaps we should fire up a"Gun It Luther,No Pre 63 Hot Rods Barred,Coast to Coast,HAMB Memorial Run",with a mandatory stop in the middle, designed to coincide with the HAMB Drags.
Cant wait to see it.. My dad ran specialty vettes back in the day 80's-early 90's and he told me a guy he knew was prepping a ZR1 to run the cannon ball run this would have been after it was all over? Is there still some thing going on that is pretty hush hush? Or is My dad making me look like an idiot right now?
In the mid to late eighties...the Four Ball Rally was still going. Hot Rod or Car Craft built a retired cop car to make the run. Next best thing is the Silver State Clasic. It's only 90 miles but, it's legal...and there are medical personell on standby just in case. With the National limit back at 75 I'd say they made their point and there's no longer a point to be made.
if you build it,,, they will come. but lets make it REAL interesting... starts in NYC and ends at the portafino inn. . . BUT manditory checkpoints in several states where your timecard would be stamped. . . miss a checkpoint, add an hour to your ET halfway checkpoint is the Ramada Inn, Joplin MO with a three day "time out" for the Drags and pre/post drag festivities at the hotel hell, it'd be fun as all get out! HAMB only, by INVITE only. we might be riffraf and degenerit, but we are our own brand
