I have a pair of what I think are cowl lights but can't seem to Id them. I have had the one with a red jewel for a while now and have been searching for the other side, well this past weekend at the Norwich carshow I found the mate, as seen in the pictures it has a green jewel. I recall a topic not to long ago with a pait of cowl lights that were from a 20's Studebaker I was wondering if these are from a Stude also. can anyone shed some light on these, I was also told they may be off an airplane.
They look like boat lights to me. Nothing about them looks aircraft. Boats have had the green and red nav lights since the Ark.
I was going to say the same thing. The jeweled light would let you know what side of the boat you were p***ing on. Never the less they would make pretty smooth turn signals.
Early studebaker cowl light had two colored jewels in them as well. I think they were green and red. Here's a pic of a 25 Stude.... you can see the cowl light have a jeweled light in the side.
The red jewel is the driver's side light and the green is the p***enger side. Maritime tradition is to p*** head to head only right to right, i.e., green to green.
Not sure... as the main lights are both white. I think current small boat regs require only one white masthead running light and the red / green lenses are not nearly large enough to project out the required number of degrees. Not aero enough for an aircraft. Vintage car, truck, locomotive, Mustang Ranch? (so you'll know if you are coming or going!). Gary
I bet if you posted on FordBarn.com you'd get the correct answer, but I'm 99% sure they are car, which car? I don't know.
They are automotive. I have seen that pair on a car, but I cannot recall what car it was at the time.
