I briefly read a post on a google search about a guy using 82-92 camaro backing plates and drums with early chevy hubs on an early ford, front, straight (I beam) axle instead of using the aluminum Buick drums. Does any one have any info on how to do this? Seems like it should be able to work easier and cheaper than the Buick route, but maintain the perfect look.
early chevy hubs have small 5 lug pattern like 5 on 4" camaro drums 5 on 4.75" Maybe mustang backers drums and a ford pattern hub?
Most likely the early Chevy hubs would come from a drum brake Nova or Camaro and would use the same spacer and such as disc conversions use for early Ford. If they are 11" brakes I would think that you could use the F100 backing plates and re drill the lug pattern in the stock early Ford hubs. You might then need to turn down the outside of the hub to fit in the Chevy drum. You will also need to do a stack up of measurements to make sure the offset is right so the shoes are properly set in the drum. I would like to see the completed set up and you can PM me with any help you need on this. Jim Ford
maybe he's talking about the aluminum rear drums from midsize and F body cars. kinda small being 10" x 1 3/4" shoes. '82 - '92 Camaros are disc on the front, actually, EVERYTHING '82 newer is disc on the front.
yep that is what I was talking about. according to the short blurb I read the guy used plates and aluminum drums off the rears, but used an old chevy hub with an adapter from speedway. It never explained which chevy hubs or adapter he used. Hopefully someone on here has done this.
