Putting a 1935 chevy master hotrod together, can anyone help me out with some info....did the master and standard have the same size bearings on the front spindles or are the spindle sizes different. I dont have the standard spindles to compare and info is spotty on the web.

I don't know if the bearings are the same or not. However, the original Knee Action front suspension is not a very good design. It is also difficult and expensive to rebuild. I replaced the Knee Action on my 34 Master with a 1950 Chevy pickup front axel.

Any photos of the whole car?

the back was perfect but the guy that trailered it in partially ruined the tail pan when he dragged it on the trailer, it had no rear end in it and he just yanked it on folding the bottom there....also the fenders were almost perfect he folded them in some so gonna take some hammering to get them straight again...

doing this build with parts already have stored in the garage...got a 8 inch ford rear end on s10 springs with s10 brackets.... front is camaro rotors with bearings for same but waiting on a guy to make me some spacers with a sleeve.....just was curious because i found eci brakes sells kits but not for the master so wasn't sure why...looking at making a front shock brackets to bypass the garbage and keep the independent springs....

If you can make that suspension work well enough to drive the car, you're a genius. You ought to look around for some other suspension to put under there...but which one, might depend on what your plans are for the finished car. Hopefully you have a plan, or are thinking about how it would be nice to have a plan, before you just start throwing whatever parts you can scrounge, at the car.

btw the reason the disk brake kit doesn't fit the knee action front end, is because of how the spindle is different from the car that the kit was designed to fit. Also, no one wants to bother with putting disc brakes on the knee action front end, because the only guys who use it are the restorers. Hot rodders always figure out another suspension to use. Hence, no market for disk kits for the knee action.

  9. Just in general, the '34 Master and the '35 Standard are the same car with a couple of minor differences. The '35 Master is a completely different animal than the other two.

The radius rod attatches to the brake backing plate to keep it in one positition as the spring compresses...so thinking of using that backing plate and making a cut out for the disk break conversion so that it keeps this idea. I got the spacing in the back to detatch the drum brake stuff and put in a bracket on that plate.

Ya someone i found in the states there rebuilds that Knee Action unit for around 700 each...the shipping is killer too...to get a cubed box 55 lbs 2 rotor's and 2 calipers shipped up here was 210 bucks....that's why there's a lot of guys here that wont bother with shipping , they either go down and pick it up or suck it up and find differ ways to do things
