"Downs has these on ebay right now. I would have thought this would be a $5,000 plus body. I don't really keep up with them. Looks like a great opportunity for some one wanting to build a gl*** roadster. Tim
I searched "downs '32 roadster" on ebay. I had lunch at a friends restaurant with my grandson's today and he was telling me about it so I looked then up and there they were. If you all can't find them I'll go back and take another look.
Please do, post a link and if someone reports you I'll make sure that they don't have a happy new year.
Thanks you badshifter, I was able to download to my pc but can't get the link to upload to the hamb. Probably the lack of romance between the two. Tim
Thanks for the link. Seems like a hell of a good deal. The listing Ebay member only had 3 feedback which concerns me a little.
You are so right Beano my friend.... Did you guys read the following statement? HRP Authentic DOWNS ***embled 1932 Ford Roadster Body *** This auction is your down payment and place in line for a limited run of bodies that we are doing *** *** The balance of $2000.00 plus shipping will be do upon delivery ***
Old Fart & HRP read it again: Price: US $1,500.00 Buy It Now You guys been starting to celebrate new years too early??? Looks like &1,500 then 2,000 + freight 500== $4,000 shipped to me
I'm as concerned about the 1st grade level spelling in the ad copy; *** The balance of $2000.00 plus shipping will be do upon delivery ***
My shop mechanic recently took delivery of a new Downs 32 roadster body and I was shocked at the poor quality. I have seen Down bodys before and they were very good, but this one was absolutely horrible. I drag home some pretty nasty projects, so I don't expect much, but this thing was really, really, bad. Good luck, -Abone.
One article says "Established 2013". Doesn't sound like the old Downs bodies to me. Normal price here... http://www.downscars.com/1932-ford-roadster/
***embled Brookville deuce for $9700 (+ whatever the cowl vent option adds) looks like more fun. http://www.ebay.com/itm/32-Ford-Duece-Roadster-***embled-Steel-Body-1932-FLASH-SALE/351245930215?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=1&asc=20131003132420&meid=3e6c3420bff445f1bee9ffd8ddcd01a6&pid=100005&prg=20131003132420&rk=4&rkt=6&sd=291336173517&rt=nc Actually that is not far off the price a couple of independent ***emblers get for the same thing.
Three months to deliver. Good luck you loose all your Ebay and PayPal protection after one month. Sounds like buyers are financing their production.
Rather than scream "scam", why not just call Downs and see???? Some of you seemed to have misplaced your tin foil caps
From the Downs website... "Fast-forward to 2013. The current owner of the Downs car manufacturing company is Tom Borisch. Tom struck a deal with Jamie Downs, and bought and moved it to Grand Rapids, MI. It’s been a huge task bringing this back on line, and we continue to find new challenges." Maybe the new owner is trying to get the business up and running again and needs some capital to do it. (?)
Hi Guys, We had a few bodies shipped early on that we are not very proud of... That being said, We have done our best to correct those situations now that we have a competent ***embly crew in house. The first few cars we shipped, we outsourced to other shops for ***embly, We thought they were good, but found later that they were lacking in quality. Can you please have your shop mechanic call us, we would like to do what we can to make it right. As for the Ebay auction. It's a real deal, and the quality is as you would have expected from a Downs car back when Jim ran the company. Thanks, Tom
That line right there is enough to scare the hell out of me. A manufacturer that doesnt even know a good body from a bad one???
I think he was talking about thinking the shops he had building them were good, but lacked in quality. I know nothing about these bodies, but I do know you can give some shops the best of everything and they can make an absolute mess out of it.

Correct. We hired out the work and lost money on the cars just to make sure we filled the orders. They were delivered late, and the reputable shop we used shipped a mess. I'm not making excuses, and I know a good car when I see it. The guy running our ***embly shop now worked for Jim Downs for 20 years. He's built them all, hundreds of them! Chances are, if you have a Downs bodied car from the Jim Downs days, he built it. When he joined the team, our quality went right back to what Jim Downs had supplied for 25+ years. We take pride in what we do. Tom
