The past couple weeks I have been trying to gather up most of the stuff that i think i will need to get something going. I hope i can get this together in time to enjoy new spring. I'm gonna try the 315 hemi and see how that goes and i have a pre 67 vw bus steering box with column. The body is rough but should work alright. I'm sure it is obvious, but it is a 33 i believe chysler or dodge body and a model a cowl. It seems to be close to fitting but is taking time. I haven't had much luck around here finding a dodge cowl. Being that i have never built a car up from scratch i figured i would try anyway. Also, i plan on building my own frame from 2x3 tubing i already have half of the tubing. So that is a start. IF the pictures work that would be cool, it is my first time trying pictures. If anyone has any advise that may help me it. I'm all ears! Also, i included a picture of my dads 31 coupe that he has been working on and my 31 tudor that i bought last summer from hotrodder which still has the 4 banger. I haven't decided what exactly to do with it. I guess it depends on how the dodge goes. Thanks and i really appreciate the site. I can't believe how much interesting stuff is posted every day. It is really handing having a place like this to go and see how things are done and how they work.
Those 33 mopars are special. Most folks would have them as a second choice after a 32 ford.... They have a high beltline and look pre- chopped. I'm working on a 33 as well . They're a beautiful car . treat it well and good luck. If I can be of any help, just ask.
I was kinda hoping to building a ford like dad is but after getting the mopar out and looking it over i really like the suicide doors. That is something that i have always wanted to have on an old car. Also, i see what you mean about he high beltline. i was looking at chopping it and when measureing it and comparing it to my 31 tudor it was already quite a bit lower. I figure i would have enough trouble as it is fixing it anyway, plus i have not chopped a roof before. Dad chopped his old 39 chevy in the 70's but that was before my time. What little i have done so far has seemed to help make it look more like a car. I really look forward to making some progess on this car. The old hemi that i have for it runs good and smooth and has a cool appearence. anyway, Thanks for the help you are welcome to email me pictures of your car. Especially if your coupe body is in good shape. Mine is kinda rough and replacement panels seem a little high, so i will probably have to try to make a few . my email is: barry_harris_98@yahoo.com
You can get an adapter to use a small block Chrysler fuel pump on that 315. A nice little upgrade and cheaper than finding a rebuilt stocker. (IF you go that route though...here's a tip...you may have to grind about an 1/8 inch off the top of the adapter and the fuel pump to clear under the stock water crossover. Just make sure you leave enough metal for a gasket surface). You have lots of options for a distributor. You can rebuild the stock one...should be a dual point...you can get a point eliminator kit for it...or you can get adapters to use either a Chevy HEI or a Chrysler electronic distributor. I went with a Chevy HEI 'cause I had a relatively new one laying around in my garage. (The distributor adapter to use a Chevy HEI on a 315 is actually the same one as the 354 Chrysler...they have the same intermediate shaft). As far as carbs, I bolted an Edelbrock 500 cfm carb on mine...perfect out of the box. You can also get adapters to use a small block chevy water pump, though I haven't changed my water pump yet. Hot Heads is where I got most of my stuff...and I've had nothing but excellent service from them. You can get decent Taylor 8mm wires too...all depends on how you want it to look and perform.
Hey Stromberg97, reading your reply is exactly what i have been trying to find out. I have tryed searching. I Would like to hear about anything that would interchange on my engine or what i could adapt. I'm planning on trying to make a unique intake, i know that is much easier said than done. If i buy or build a set of headers, do you know what patterns interchange? I'm just gonna run open headers. Hering your information really helps me to not worry about running into reliabilty issues. From what i have saw so far is 315 and 325 parts interchange. Any others? thanks alot! Bo
welcome, glad to see a dodge. heres my 33 plymouth. model a frame ford truck grille. keep us posted on the dodge.
The 315 and 325 are basically the same...after that it gets tricky. You'd have to talk to professional hemi builders...they know all the info. Bob at Hot Heads will be able to help you. Those are just some of the things I did to my 315...for reliability sake. I wanted to try an Edelbrock carb...all I've ever used before were Holleys. The 500 cfm version is just about perfect for the size. And that carb runs ****in' perfect. My stock distributor was frayed inside so I went with the Chevy HEI I had just for ease of hook-up (one wire) and reliability. It eliminates the old coil and resister and all that...cleans up the intake a bit. The fuel pump I got just because I didn't wanna spend a pretty penny on a rebuilt stock fuel pump. I got a street/strip small block chrysler pump out of Summit. Like I said...Hot Heads has the water pump adapters and all kinds of other stuff...Oh Yeah...I put an spin-on oil filter adapter on mine too. If you're rebuilding the engine, there's a full-flow oil block you should get if you're gonna go to a spin-on filter...it diverts all the oil to the filter first before going to the bearings. You can use the spin-on filter without it...but if you're tearing your motor apart...go ahead and put it in. www.hothemiheads.com There's the website...you'll probably find alot more info on there...and you can contact them and they'll be able to help. Almost forgot... You can get trans adapters to use just about anything with that 315...Chevy manuals and autos, fords, chrysler torqueflites...BOP's...lots of options there. All your carb adapters are there...spacers etc...linkages. They have other distributor options like MSD Pro-billets and Vertex style HEI's. Engine rebuild kit. Gear drives, balancers. Block hugger headers...I remember you talking about exhaust options. They sell the Offy version of the dual quad intake for the 315/325. There's pretty much everything you need for the motor. Kanter also has stuff...but I never ordered motor parts from them.
Worked on the dodge today, but not much really to take pictures of. I did manage to take a picture of an old roadster in our old garage. This car was built in the late 70's by dad. He said that he mainly had to use what he had in the junkyard because funds were low. He has some pictures when he first finished it, i will look for them sometime. Anyway i thought it would be something to look at. I'm not sure of it's exact year. The engine is a 327 with 3 dueces. Automatic trans.
Some progress has been coming along this week . I have been trying to get all the parts where i want them to see how i need to mount them. I have a long way to go (obviously) but seeing about how everything will look, makes it look a little bit more like a car. I got the engine out of the old truck and took it to the car wash and gave it a good bath. This had to be the heaviest engine i have ever dealt with. But anyway before leaving for work i was looking over the car to get an ideal where i need to try to start at tomarrow and thought i would snap a picture or two to bring to work and think on it there. I have to do some major reworking on the front suspension but i put this one under it to see how the frame would handle the engine weight. I figure once i get the wheelbase and engine location and trans location all in place that i would set it apart and maybe just go ahead and box this A model frame and use it. After getting the engine in the car and seeing how the engine looks. I may not go for such a tall intake like i originally thought. If anybody has any suggestions or comments feel free to help me. Here is a couple pictures of the car as it is this week. ALSO. I really appreciate the guy who posted the excellent motor mount build on his hemi this week. That couldn't have came at a better time.
The past few weeks i have been trying to get some pictures as best i can. There has been a few tough choices but hopefully things will work out. I made some quick peices to hold the engine up by the motor mount holes. And i decided to go with hanging pedals since i had everything that i needed. Also, i have decided to just build the back half of the frame with my 2x3 tubing and i will be boxing the rest of the frame this week and next. I also tried my hand at making 4 link setup with junkyard parts. I believe it is gonna work out alright. Also the front crossmember had gone through a wreck in it past life and was junk so i had to make one for it. Also, i removed the model a front axle ***embly and swapped it out with a (39-40) ? ford setup. It really helped get the look i was going for. I mounted a 500 cfm 2 barrell holley on it because the original was shot. I also removed the wiring from the old truck and have been using it to start the engine to show my friends. Today i set the body back on to see how the lowered front end and all was looking . Progress seems slow at time butat least some its being made. I still have to mount the wishbones but have to make sure the axle is in the right position. Not really sure of any color choices yet or the wheels. But if anyone has any suggestions it would be cool. Or helpful comments on something you see with the car.
OMG dude: you gotta' get that car running/on the road again! Looking good on the '33 - coming along nicely. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" If guns cause crime, all of mine are defective.
