I wanted a new daily driver.. I sold my 2001 f-150, and wanted something just as economical but way cooler... I just don't really like new cars or trucks all that much.. I bought a new f-150, drove it a month and gave it to the wife... then I came across this.. This 65 f-150 was the public school's janitorial truck when I was in kindergarten ( like early 80's ) and when the school auctioned it off early 2000's the janitor " Gus " bought it. She's had it all this time. But she quit driving it in 2009 and then had the local vo tech kids drop a fresh 240 or 300 ( I don't know how to tell them apart ) in it, go through the brakes, and suspension.... shedrove it home and parked it. I saw her and asked her if she still had it and she said not only did she have it, she wanted me to buy it!. Soooo I finally went to look at and when I asked what she wanted I was blown away! I actually gave her more than she asked for just to be fair. Here's my 7year old side kick ***isting in the inspection While it's not perfect, all it took it to get it going was a battery and fresh gas. It does need front cab mounts and floor pans... ( I already have then in ! )just waitin on 1 cab mount to do the install ) Here it is at my house! Like the red rims? Too bad they are just tempoary. The seat was trashed but I had a seat I recovered for an 85 f-150 but never installed because I totaled the truck before it could be installed! Crazy thing it was almost a dirrect bolt in... It is to tall so I threw a 14 1/2 inch grant wheel on for now ( already had it with the correct adapter ) then I added a 10 ball shifter knob! Ok on to the rims.... I like steelies.... but I wanted to try something more 60's so I opted for some later style 15x5.5 and 15x6 powder coated eastwood's stardust over reflective chrome with trim rings, spider rings, chrome lug nuts, and center caps.... all wrapped up in some white line radials... ( I know everyone hates radial tires ..) It still needs lowered.... I'm leaning towards the 3" droped twin beams and 4" drop rear hangers/ shackles. It needs paint... but that'll have to wait a while After the lowering, I've pretty much blown my budget for a cheap daily driver...
Very cool man. I'm exactly in the same boat. I just sold my 06 chrysler 300 so that I can put some money into my daily driver, which is a 66 f100. I prefer old cars and love the fact that I can actually work on them. Should be fun to see your progress. Hopefully we can motivate each other and have a fun lil time line of our daily fun! Cheers, Biff
Well a lot has happened since I posted last.. I rolled the truck on 12-23-13... I've been rebuilding it.. and decided to chop it 2" while I was at it . It's getting a 302 and zf5. Here's some pictures Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I didn't like this truck when it came out. Even though I was under 10 years old I thought the top was too high and the front wheels set in too far. I am now building a 64 F100. I took care of the wheel track by putting it on an 87 f 150 frame. I now have power st. power disc brakes and engine mounts and the top in stock height. Your truck looks great.
I need to get to work on my old '65 and get it back on the road,it was my daily driver in the 70's & 80's. HRP
