I'm curious to see what you guys have done in the way of custom built roadster top irons. I'm wanting to build some myself, and wanted to see what you guys have come up with! :)

I definitely hope so, I finished a coupester that someone began a few decades ago, but chopped 5" out of the length to help the proportions. GOTTA make custom ones.

I welded up my top frame out of 3/4" square mild steel tubing. I spent about 8 hours cutting and tacking pieces until I got the profile I wanted. As I tacked and made changes I would lay an old bed sheet over it to check the profile. The steel tubing has 1/8" door panel board strips pop riveted to it. This worked perfect for the upholstery shop to staple the cloth to. My top is chopped 2 1/2", and fully padded inside and out like a Carson top. It doesn't make a peep at 80mph. It doesn't fold. If I want to go *******, I can lift it off in about 5 minutes.

I modified the top irons of an M G B. for my 32, the one in my avatar. Had to lengthen it between the windshield header and the first pivot point. Also had to widen it about 6 inches. Still folds down or can be removed by taking out 6 screws. If anyone is interested e mail me at springgrange@personainternet.com and I will provide more info and pics
