Happened sometime Monday. Came home from work and went to the garage to drop off the rear I got from Dirty2...my garage (apartment complex...GATED complex) door was wide open. Every single time I leave that garage I make sure it closes all the way, and it had completely closed that morning. No key to lock it, but you have to have the remote to open it.

Looked around for a place to put the rear, saw an empty spot where a toolbox used to be. And I didn't realize untill today that the two transmisions I had in there were also gone.

So Dallas folks...if you hear about or see any of the following, swap meets, garage sales whatever, please let me know.

Toolbox: The center 3 or 4 (?) drawer section of a Craftsman tool box. Red, black drawers. It was old and slightly beat up, but contained a number of craftsman 3/8" drive sockets and numerous wrenches.

Transmission #1: Chevrolet 3-speed. Very clean, casing was painted dark grey. Perfect working order.

Transmission #2: Ford C4 trans and bellhousing. The one Doc., one of the nicest guys and HAMBer's I've met, gave me. Another perfect working condition trans, pretty clean.

I know I'll never get this stuff back, nothing special about it or identifiable...and the above descriptions describe a lot of different transmissions and toolboxes....but just the same. Hear about it, let me know so I can chop the ****ing theives hands off. Guess I'm venting again more than anything.

I know...I didn't think anything was stolen originally, I've got a bunch of tires, a bike, battery charger, jack stands, a jack, etc. in there that was still around. The stuff that was stolen was usually in the way, but since it was gone and I wasn't tripping over it, I didn't notice untill later. All of this was done in broad daylight, while I was at work.

There IS a lock on the door....but they don't give out the key for it. You have to turn the latch, then lock the lock (it's like a deadbolt). A few months ago I went to the garage one morning to get in the car and go to work, and the damn thing was locked. Not a soul in the office could tell me why. It got unlocked, and I promptly removed the lock so it wouldn't happen again.

Oh, and did I mention my daily driver, which is at the body shop, was vandalized last Thursday night? Got a lovely phone call about that from the police friday morning. The stole stupid ****, like the shift knob and plastic trim around (but not including!) the stereo. I ****ing hate theifs.

Filed a police report tonight. Going to raise the dead at the apartment office tomorrow.

That ****s man!I'll alert my local car buds to be on the lookout for "great deal" transmissions or Craftsman tools being sold "cheap".We got a huge swap meet comin' up in Feb. I'll make a note and be on the look out.F'kin' thieves man............nothin' a good baseball bat won't solve.I hope they cut their hands on the trans bellhousin' or dropped the toolbox and broke their foot.

You need to re-program the remote. They only have so many codes, & they all come from the factory with the same one. If the installer didn't re-program it, any one that buys the same opener can go around & open all doors that are not re-programed. Better yet: change it out for a different brand opener.
Sorry about yout stuff: just be glad they didn't clean you out like they did me. BTW dodn't expect the cops to do *anything* after they fill out the report (if they even did that).

I did have them reprogram the remote yesterday. Tomorrow they are moving me to a different garage and getting me a key to lock it with or they'll never hear the end of me.

no, it's no one I know. I only know two people at this complex, and they don't even know which garage is mine, probably don't even know I have one. I'm not worried about that. No one would know what I had in the garage to know what to take anyway. But to take the transmissions over ther other stuff, they have to be sorta into cars I suppose.

I know the police wont do anythine else...the apartment people will probably try to not do anything, but I will not let that happen. I've written it all off....had to do something though, guess it makes me feel a little better?

While I wouldn't file a claim on your insurance for it (since it's a "small" claim), I would check to see of the complex has insurance that covers it (they should). You may at least be able to replace your tools...
BTW I wouldn't be surprised if the SOBs didn't steal the trans for s**** weight - check with your local s**** yards!

If the 3 speed transmission was a standard, I'll give you another one. I have Saginaw 3 speeds literally stacked on top of each other in my shop. I can bring one to my work in Hurst if you want to pick it up.

Just kidding. That ****s big time.

I heard renters insurance is pretty cheap to get if you live in an apartment. You might ought to check into that.

I have a small bottom roller cabinet "craftsman" --think its 5 drawers
-- circa 1992 or so, decent shape
I have a few misc tools I can toss in too.. nothing special
I let you have it , maybe some others will donate to fellow hot rodder
PM me set up time, (Sunday?)
I'm close to alliance airport ... don't need it any longer, rather do that than
drag it to swap meet argue over 50 bucks for it
maybe that will make you feel better about your common man

Wow man, thanks for the offer!

I don't think I can accept though. The toolbox that was stolen was old, beat up, the tools inside weren't much. Maybe together $150 of stuff, but it was stuff I didn't use a lot, most of It was probably metric, I don't even remember exactly. I'd feel bad coming out ahead on something like that. I wasn't very upset about that. All the important tools I'd put in the other car anyway. It was more just the principle of it getting stolen that had me pissed....then noticing the transmisisons made get serious about it.

Seriously, thanks again though, people here are awesome.

The 3-speed was given to me, so I guess I'm not out any $$ but just the fact that it was a large component planned for the hot rod makes it ****.

The C4 however was slated for someone else's car, a car thats not running because of it's current transmission. They came up with some money so I found a transmission and was supposed to put it in the car soon. Doc. was great to let me have one he had, so technically all I'm out on that is gas $$. But now I have to find another transmisison and it'll take that much longer to get one in the car. So if anyone knows where I can find another good C4 for cheap, please let me know.

Or maybe a cheap rent house with a garage.....

No renters insurance, I actually just need to sign and return the papers for it. My dumb*** should have done that weeks ago. I don't know that it would have covered my garage anyway.

I had that happen back on Thanksgiving, 1990; Forced entry. Stole ****-loads of tools, 2 (not all 4 but 2) 56 Corvette mint hubcaps, 1/2 of a factory dual-quad set-up, a set of 14" factory steel wheels mounted on narrow ww's, yadda, yadda, yadda. I guess the feeling I was left with was in the ball-park of being ****d! Called the Insurance folks ASAP, and attempted to make a claim within the required LIMITED claim time allowance, never re-couped all I lost, and have been 1/2 *** paranoid ever since! I emphasize with you to the max. It just ain't right! Hopefully you'll appreciate the fact that in my opinion, you do great work in miniature (1/24 & 1/25th) scale !!! you really do! Sorry about your loss. Hope you're able to recover as much as possible!

They say less is more;....more or less.

(this is for everyone) Trust me you don't want to file a claim on a small loss - or even CALL your insurance co.!!! Even a CALL is filed as a you having a CLAIM!!! Even a CALL is used as an excuse to INCREASE YOUR PREMIUMS!!! I know this from running my site ScrewedByinsurance.com for 4 years before I ran out of money (it'll be back up soon I'm almost finished painting the Mera). When getting insurance, get a large deductable to reduce your premiums. NEVER file a claim for a small amount - it WILL cost you more than the claim in increased premiums within a short time period.

Dang, that blows. Have you checked the local boards to make sure there aren't any new For Sale ads? I've seen people get busted that way before, but it probably isn't likely.
