I posted this in the homemade tools thread a while back.

I do a lot of cabinet blasting and found an alternative and less expensive way to protect the gl*** window as compared to purchasing the cover sheets from Eastwood or TIP. I get a roll of .003 clear plastic film from the art store (40"x12' roll about $12 at **** Blick) and cut the roll into 12" lengths with a saw. I then tape the end of the roll to the gl***, unroll it, cut it to length, then tape the perimeter with
regular masking tape. Found besides being cheaper, that the masking tape holds better and does not leave an adhesive residue like the double sided tape on the purchased sheets.

I have the harbor freight table top model and was reading the reviews before I got mine and they all said they leaked. then one review said that was the older models and the newer ones were better.

I bought it and it does not leak. I did add a fluorescent light in a safety tube inside at the top since it was very hard to see in there. I have been happy with it

I have a Rayzist blast cabinet that is designed to be used for gl*** carving and etching and has it's own on board filter system - works great but I think they're pretty expensive. It's still at my house down in southern NM, and up here in Taos, I found a SkatBlast unit that a local gl*** artist had outside that needed some sheetmetal repair, new gl***, and fixing the lighting, but I got it for $100. Keep your eyes open on Craigslist and the local paper and see if you can find a pressure pot type blaster that eliminates the siphon tube and ****py gun issue. Lots of trophy shops and gl*** artists have these units that they might not be using. The SkatBlast unit I bought came with the vacuum, too.

Gl*** vs plexigl*** windows....you need to keep in mind your sometimes sandblasting large awkward sized pieces that you'll be flipping around while your looking in...do you really want your eyes that close to gl***? It may not last as long, but I'll stick with the plexi and the throw away shields.

I have used laminated safety gl*** in several cabinets with no problem and it does not attract dust and get hazy etc the way plastic does. I cut them out of old flat gl*** windshields; but even from a gl*** shop they shouldn't be much money.

  8. for venting and dust control on my big cabinet (4'x4' and I use black beauty in this cabinet) I use a circular fan from a weed growing set up I found at the flea market, its shaped like a big plastic turbo and it ****s dirt and dust like a mofo!
On the other 2 cabinets, I have them running through 2 plastic 30 gallon drums, dust hits water in tank #1 and tank 2 is there to make sure the grit doesnt make it to the cheapo vacuum head I bought at lowes that sits on a 5 gallon drum.

TP has body working tools, and sand blasting equipment, many different styles of blasting cabinets. They advertise in all the major auto magazines

I have a TP cabinet that I bought used about ten years ago. Absolutely one of the best tool purchases I've ever made. There are probably nicer cabinets out there, but this one is plenty-fine for me. Just a little dust every now and then, as I packed the intake vent with fibergl*** filter material. It's actually a Skat-Blast, which is now called TP Tools.

I use the thing probably every time I'm out in the garage. If I had to replace it I'd buy another TP cabinet.

You want the upgrade kit. Their siphon tube has a lot to do with how good it blasts.

I just bought the gun only. When I recieved the gun they included a new catalog, and then I found the upgrade kit. I would have bought that if I had seen it. My booth seems to work O.K. with the new siphon tube though
