Hot Rods Vin number problems on a sbc

Hey guys I just pickup a 55 chevy with a 350 chevy. I was trying get the year off the block but i cant find a vin number that will match this engine. The number stamped on the front of the front of the block is v0819cnv. Any help. Thanks

 

CNV comes up as a 1970 350 / 250 H/P L65 out of an Imp

that's the "suffix code" which you can look up in a book, or on the internets.

 

where did you find the number on the block I found a number on the drivers side by the bell housing 3970010 maybe I'm missing something Jim

 

thats a standard casting number

 

P***enger side right below the head.

I have seen the serial number stamped on the oil filter area on some sbc but not all. It have been a little hard to see if the casting is rough.

 

OK I have finally removed the engine plate and installed new motor mounts the block numbers on the pad below the p***enger side head are 7713009695 /0103C2R The block casting divers side bell housing is 3970010. Thank you in advance for any information. Jim

C2R 1982 305 155 4 Roch E4ME carb.

but the block casting number is 69-79 350. The 7713.... number looks funny, it should be one less digit, and probably have a letter or two in it, and not start with 7.

so my guess is the numbers are not quite what they appear (they can be hard to read), and it's just another old 350.
