Has Anyone actually ran their car across the scales, specifically the '55-'56 cars? What do they actually weigh? My ***le says the '56 weighs in at 3100lbs empty. How close is this to the actual weight?
My '59 from the factory with the 223 and 3-speed OD is supposed to scale up at 3460 or so. I think the modern V8 and aluminum 4-speed it may wind up at less.
Several '57 guys had their Custom series weighed...low to mid 3400's. BTW, my 4.6 dohc with 4r70w auto ****** fully loaded with A/C, alt,PS,exhaust manifolds, etc. weighs 719 lbs...not too far from the original 6 w/ 3 speed manual. According to Eaton, that calculated the weights when I had my front springs made, the new drivetrain was within 60 lbs of the original with no power anything.
When I had a FE 428 CJ( aluminum intake and C6) in my 56 Victoria hdtp( gl*** fenders) it weighed 3840 lb. Pete
its been rumored that ford published weights were on the low side, speculation was/is that cars shipped by rail are charged by the pound. so if they shaved a few they saved a bunch. sometimes rumors are based on facts.
I thought the 3100 lbs seemed fishy. The car looks like it ought to weigh about what a late '70s Fairlane weighed... Around 3500 lbs.
