I have a 1962 f100 uni and I want to locate the gas tank to the frame and out of the cab. Question is does anyone know if there is an easy to swap tank?

A quick internet search will reveal many articles of trucks done this way. The rear portion of Ford Truck frames back to 30s are all similar to your 62 with 48 up being identical.
A popular swap is a 65 mustang under the bed.

The issue of safety is debatable. Behind the seat and in the cab, it's virtually impossible to damage the tank. Think about it, in a severe crash where forces are enough to rupture the tank, the possible fire will be the least of the occupants problems.
On the other hand in the back or on a frame rail there is more of a chance for rupture and fire. Mainly because the wiring and hot pipes are so close by and the tank is more susceptible for damage in that location.
    Nice truck BTW

I agree with F-ONE the tanks were behind the seats for years. the common complaints are safety and fumes. the statement F-ONE made about safety is dead on think 70s pintos. As far as fumes are concerned make sure vent is working properly and all rubber fill hoses are good just my $.02 tom

In my 56 F100 I'm going to use a mid 70's Suburban tank from LMC
All three available fit inside the frame rails behind the diff. and are priced right. I'm using the 30 gal version. The aftermarket tanks are too small and to expensive for what I'm after. I'll also be using the new
Aeromotive Phantom pump. I'll be driving this truck a lot and I want a large capacity for out of state trips.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I know safety is important but that is not the issue, I'm smoothing the body and want to move tank and patch filler neck hole. I will probably put the fillet in the bed where it will be covered. Like the idea of the larger capacity suburban idea SicSpeed mentioned.

You may want to check out Summit Racing, they have some multi- use tanks for custom applications.
