I rode my old Galaxie ( '65) to a cruise back in about '04. It had a really old Earl Scheib job on it. I did wax it when I for got it. The guy that put on the cruise ran and got a special plaque made up while the cruise was going on, "Best Use of a 900 Year Old Earl Scheib Paint Job" The car looked really good from about a block away though.
Adam Sandler has a cute song about a POS car ,you tube it if you want to hear it. I want it as my theme song.
Built my scoop out of 1 1/2" exhaust pipe and .065 sheet metal, welded to the hood. Didn't have to worry about fibergl*** turning loose. Possibilities are endless as to shape.
Thought I might hi-jack this thread for a minute beings everyone is talking scoops. I finally decided on a scoop for my car. Had a Super Duty scoop like the one in post 26. But I didn't think it went with the '40 body lines too well. My uncle had the one in the first picture. It's off of a '56 (only) Ford Big Job truck. I like it on the hood much better. I still have to paint the hood. Should I paint it orange metal-flake like the car? Scoop and all. Or maybe something like flat black the hood and have the scoop chromed. It's made of some sort of pot metal I guess. The scoop does have a chrome front grille. Thanks, Gene.
Define what part of the 60's. Early or late? Different looks. A Grump Lump would not look right on a early/mid 60's build.
Anyone remember the "Detroit news" mailbox scoops? I bet a lot of those went missing from in front of people's houses.
The Baltimore News American was the hood scoop supplier around here. I racked my brain a little. In mid to late '60's. There was only one g***er style Chevy II in my area. Kept trying to remember what kind of scoop was on it. Than it hit me. He didn't have a scoop. He had put spacers between the hood hinges and the hood. The back of the hood was kinda raised up. Early cowl induction? The car was, I guess, a budget build. Stock paint, rusty fenders, bowling alley seats. But it had a 427 hooked to a push****on 727. Straight front axle and a 3/4 ton truck rear. Neatest thing I had ever seen at that time. P.S. metal man, thanks for the input.
Here's mine, I put it on in the mid 70s, it's open in the back. Wish I had a better pic, the hood is now sitting in my storeage shed. Decided to go scoop-less
Back in the day '72 a guy cruised our local Mc D's with one of these pop riveted on a stock 6 cyl '61 Falcon! We all were wondering what happened to the missing lid on the can in the parking lot. I am partial to the teardrop. see avatar.
